@HokieSmash brought in some special guests for our ACC Basketball Awards Podcast. We have Jerran Anderson @HereGoJayAgain joining us again. He was a student basketball manager at Virginia Tech just a few short years ago, and recently was a guest for Episode 23 as we had a Virginia Tech basketball specific podcast. We are happy to have …

ACC Bubble anyone? Your guess is as good as mine.

Just a short post for tonight… 2 Weeks ago the ACC tournament picture looked nice and tidy – 5 locks (Virginia, Syracuse, UNC, Duke, and Pittsburgh) It’s completely been turned upside down since. Pittsburgh loses at home to Florida State and N.C. State to slide back towards the bubble. Florida State has won 4 of …

ACC Basketball is Thriving at the Top, but is dreadful at the Bottom.

With Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame joining the ACC this year, many basketball fans were ready to anoint the ACC the best basketball conference in America. That was pre-mature, and obviously made by folks that haven’t followed ACC Basketball in recent years. The bottom of the ACC is struggling and I mean really struggling, but …

ACC Bubble Analysis for March 9, 2014

Congratulations to the Virginia Cavaliers for clinching the top seed in the ACC Tournament. It might be unofficial, but I’m calling them the ACC regular season champions. How did their win over Syracuse affect their NCAA position, and how did it affect Syracuse’s? Anyone else make a move? In my ranking system, any RPI top …

Virginia’s path to a number 1 NCAA seed.

If you read this blog, as early as mid January I was saying Virginia was turning into a very dangerous team.  The signs were there you just had to be paying attention. A month and half later Virginia clinched the regular season ACC title by dismantling a very good Syracuse team. The Cavaliers have won their …

ESPN Launches a Digital ACC Channel, and no it doesn’t hinder the possibility of an ACC Cable Network.

On Thursday, ESPN announced that over a dozen conference channels will be available on WatchESPN.  That announcement included the ACC and several other conferences. It did not include the Pac 12, Big 12, SEC, or Big 10. There were those that spun the story into a negative for the ACC. Oh this is ESPN’s ACC Network …

ACC Football Championship Game to Remain in Charlotte, NC

Here’s the press release for the ACC’s announcement of Charlotte as the home of the ACCCG through the year 2019 sent to me from our friend @HokieSmash. Personally I think this is a good move by the ACC. I’ve been to the last three ACC Championship Games in Charlotte, and to one in Jacksonville, Fla. …

ACC Bubble Analysis for February 23, 2014

ACC basketball is fun to watch again. Elite Teams, bubble madness, Hall of Fame Coaches battling, tons of media coverage… It’s what John Swofford always dreamed of. Now about those bubble teams… In my ranking system, any RPI top (100) win is a good win and any RPI top (50) obviously worth more. Any losses …

The ACC has become College Basketball’s most compelling conference.

When you the read the title of this post, notice I didn’t say the best conference. The Big 12 and Big 10 might actually be deeper, but is there a more compelling conference in the country right now than the ACC? Pat Forde of Yahoo sports says the ACC is the hottest conference going. ESPN …

Looking back at the special guests of the ACC Weekly Podcast with @TalkinACCSports and @HokieSmash

Back in August 2013, @HokieSmash and I ( @TalkinACCSports ) were asked by @RyneHancock19 if we’d be interested in having an ACC podcast partnered with Road Warriors Radio. It sounded like a good idea, and we’ve had a lot of fun doing it. We’ve a lot of great guests, and we just wanted to take a look back at …

Did North Carolina fans overdo their celebrations after defeating Duke? Absolutely not.

Thursday night the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the #5 ranked Duke Blue Devils 74-66. It’s college basketball’s best rivalry. It’s a huge game, no question about it. When it was over North Carolina fans rushed the court. After that, about 10,000 North Carolina fans rushed Franklin St.  It was a giant party, and Heel’s fans were …

@HokieSmash and I ( @TalkinACCSports ) had a lot of ground to cover in this podcast. Where are the students at College Football Games?

Interesting piece from ESPN about the dwindling student attendance at  college football games.  Since I live in the upstate of SC I often hear about attendance issues at Clemson regarding students on their sports radio shows. I think this is a good time for a poll. Why are students staying away? I’m going to use myself …
