The ACC’s three biggest questions of week 14.

The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 14.

Does Georgia Tech have a shot against Georgia?

No… not a realistic one. If Georgia Tech beats Georgia, it would require things we’ve very rarely seen this season all coming together at once. Georgia Tech would need the 2nd half defense we saw against Duke, Wake Forest, and Pitt for an entire game. The offense can’t have redzone struggles, and Georgia would have to revert to their slow starts from earlier in the year, and have it last a whole game. The bottom line is Georgia Tech is playing its worst football of the season, and Georgia is playing its best. You do the math.

Who ends up in the ACC Championship game?

SMU heads to Cal, and Virginia hosts Virginia Tech. I think those are the teams that end up in the ACCCG. SMU has won 6 of its last 7 games, and Rhett Lashlee has them on a mission. Cal just fired their coach, and even with their talented QB, I don’t see SMU letting this chance get away. Virginia proved a lot going to Duke and thumping the Blue Devils. The stage is completely set for Virginia. One home night game and Virginia is headed to Charlotte. Georgia Tech was in a similar situation, but I feel confident the Hoos will handle the situation better.

Who wins out of Pitt and Miami?

Pitt has lost one game since September, and that was to Notre Dame. Miami has won three games in a row, all by double digits. If Miami wins, it keeps its playoff hopes alive. If Pitt wins, there is still a chance they can reach the ACCCG. This won’t be about style points for Miami. It would be nice, but they just need to make sure they don’t lose ala Syracuse last year. Miami’s defense is alot closer to Notre Dame’s than Georgia Tech’s, but I suspect this will be very much a 4-quarter game.
