Is NC State’s MVP, Seton Hall Coach, Shaheen Holloway?

Greetings, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.

Wherever you are, we hope you are having a great holiday weekend.

NC State’s performance vs. Georgia Tech was a disaster – and one of the absolute worst in conference losses any ACC men’s basketball losses any time will take this year.  Yes, it was that bad.  I have no idea what Will Wade is doing coaching this Wolfpack team on defense – but this ain’t it.  He’s clocking his team in at 116th in total defense.

At best, it was an uninspired performance by the Wolfpack.  At worst, it was massively undisciplined basketball.  NC state went 16 of 25 from the free throw line, shot 23 of 62 from the field, and went 12 of 33 from three-point land.  BRICK CITY.  But if you make your damn free throws, you win this game – it’s that simple (I feel like I’m writing about Virginia Tech here at the same time – but that’s a separate post).

But it got me thinking – why does the Wolfpack have such high NCAA Net Rankings?

They’ve lost to a bunch of really good teams.  Virginia, Kansas, and Seton Hall – wait – that Seton Hall who was picked 10th in the Big East is helping out NC State’s computer numbers?  Hell yes, it’s true.  Shaheen Holloway might be NC State’s MVP right now.

You see, Seton Hall is in the top 25 – this is weird for me to say.

Seton Hall has wins against NC State, Creighton, Georgetown – and they play hard defensive basketball with the toughness of Coach Holloway. Holloway has a team with the 6th ranked scoring defense in the country.

Holloway might actually be NC State’s MVP right now in the coaching realm – because it sure as hell isn’t Will Wade (who better get the defense figured out soon).  You can bet that State fans will have an eye on South Orange Village, New Jersey – with a look at what Seton Hall is doing in the Big East – right? 🙂  If State can find a few more wins – and Seton Hall keeps winning – the Pirates might get State into the NCAA tournament, eh?

Have a great weekend!
