Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.
I’ve watched Virginia Tech basketball on several occasions this year. Mike Young did a great job altering his roster before start of the season – but he’s missing one component. He needs a big space eater in the post – who can get some more points in the paint (or help others get points in the paint).
The Hokies luckily got the win vs. Colorado State, but got destroyed inside by 16 points in the paint – that means you have severe matchup issues.
Same movie vs. St. Mary’s who had a 16 point advantage in the paint.
The movie was a bit different for the Hokies vs. VCU – VCU only had a two point advantage on points in the paint – but drilled the Hokies with their relentless pressure and got 20 points off of turnovers.
But I think teams with bigger post guys are going to give the Hokies fits all year – and Mike Young has to figure out a way to neutralize opposing team’s scoring in the paint. He needs a bit body like Victor Davila or Coleman Collins. I’ve said this before – someone who is physical can can take up space in the post.
