We all know college athletics is more big business than sport these days. Players move, coaches move, and there is gazillions of dollars running around everywhere.
That said, it takes a special kind of person in college athletics to be truly universally loathed, and now two of the most loathed are at the same school.
Lane Kiffin got a gift job with the Oakland Raiders, left Tennessee after a year, and bailed on Ole Miss while they were in the playoffs.
Will Wade had to be fired at LSU for recruiting violations. How bad do you have to be to be fired from LSU? He was caught by federal wiretaps talking about how much he was paying players. When Wade left NC State after 1 year, he officially became the Lane Kiffin of college basketball.
I wrote this way back in 2019 about Will Wade. This was well before NC State hired him a year ago, and we thought they had escaped. They didn’t. We tried to warn them. Wade is toxic. Kiffin is toxic.
Maybe if Wade had ended up Clemson or NC State those schools would have pulled in a top 5 class like LSU’s 2018 group and be looking at 25+ win season. I guarantee though Wade would have used the same sketchy recruiting tactics and those schools would be dealing with the fallout the way LSU is having too.
Clemson and NC State fans should be relieved Wade never ended up at their schools, because he’s toxic.
They can coach, we will give them that, but those are two coaches who think about 1 thing. That’s themselves. In a me-first college athletics environment, they are a cut above.
