Boston College
Boston College football has been treading water for more than 15 years. The Eagles haven’t won more than 7 games in a season since 2009. That’s a whole bunch of coaching changes, and a whole bunch of 6 and 7 win seasons. Plus, there have been five 4-win or fewer seasons mixed in as well. Amongst all the mediocre football, last year the bottom fell out in a 2 – 10 disaster of a season. Their coach, Bill O’Brien, has coached at the highest levels of football, but his third year is a critical one. He had a reasonable 7-6 record in year one, but you do wonder if Boston College, in the current landscape of college athletics, is ever going to get out of the football mess they are in. Getting to a bowl would at least be something positive.
Will Go 7-5 (4-4) if:
Boston College can get off to a fast start on the season. If BC can start the season 3-1 or 4-0 against a schedule that sends them to Cincinnati, then home games with Rutgers, Maine, and Virginia Tech. Maine is the only sure win, so BC will have to pull some upsets. Boston College hit the portal hard, and some roster turnover doesn’t hurt after a 2-10 season. The defense ranked 127th in 2025. Just marginal improvement on the defense could lead to 3 or 4 more victories. They get Pitt, FSU, and Syracuse at home in the 2nd half of the season provide some possible wins in October and November.
Will Go 2-10 (1-7) if:
Boston College isn’t considerably better than last year. This season could fall apart fast. Other than Maine, what other games are you certain about BC winning? The offense was bad last year, and the defense was a trainwreck. There are so many question marks on this team. QB Mason McKenzie looks like the projected starter, and he’s going to have to be truly special to lift the BC offense. The defense has to be better, right? It can’t be much worse than what it was last year. I’ve got a bad feeling that BC is going to be closer to the 2-10 season than the 7-5 one.
