Georgia Tech
4 games into the 2022 season, the Geoff Collins era came to an end at Georgia Tech. Collins had run the proud program straight into the ground, and Georgia Tech had become one of the worst P5 football teams in the country. Since then, Brent Key has completely rebuilt Georgia Tech, winning 25 games in the last 3 seasons. In 2025, Georgia Tech started the year 8-0 and spent time in the top 10. The ending was a mess, though, as Georgia Tech lost 4 of its last 5 games. Key has done a great job, but even he will admit there is plenty of work to do. Key still lacks a significant out-of-conference victory, has yet to beat arch-rival Georgia, and last season’s finish left a bad taste to end the year. Even with QB Haynes King gone, can Georgia Tech take another step forward?
Will Go 9-3 (6-2) if:
If Georgia Tech starts the year 2-0. Georgia Tech starts the year with Colorado. They should get by the Buffs, and then it’s a massive game with Tennessee. The Vols will probably be the 2nd or 3rd most talented team Georgia Tech will face this year, but it’s at night at Bobby Dodd. Win both, and the Jackets season could take off. The backfield of Justice Haynes and Malachi Hosley has the potential to be one of the best in country. If it is, Georgia Tech could control games on the ground, and if the defense is somewhat better than last year, when it really struggled in the second half of the season, the Jackets could be a very tough out.
Will Go 4-8 (3-5) if:
If Albert Mendoza isn’t the answer at quarterback. Replacing a star like King will be tough enough, but if Mendoza really struggles, teams can key on that running game and Georgia Tech’s offense could stagnate. The schedule is one of the ACC’s toughest with Tennessee, at Virginia Tech, at Pitt, Louisville, at Clemson, and at Georgia. That could easily be a 0-6 or 1-5 stretch. Games with Colorado and at Stanford are no gimmes either. If Georgia Tech’s defense resembles anything like last season’s where it was 93rd in the country, this could end up being Key’s worst season in Atlanta.
