Comparing Mike Krzyzewski and John Wooden.

After Mike Krzyzewski won his 5th national title on Monday, the inevitable comparisons to the college basketball coach considered the greatest of all time John Wooden. Before we get into that comparison though, I think we can safely say that Krzyzewski and Wooden stand alone together at the top of the pantheon of college basketball. Krzyzewski has …

Led by the Duke Blue Devils the ACC is again the nation’s top basketball conference.

The ACC has always been historically known for it’s basketball. That is without debate. Each season there were a bunch of top 25 teams, with near annual runs to the Final 4 and national title game. Even with the Big East becoming an elite basketball conference in the 1980s, the ACC still challenged for the …

The Duke Blue Devils are the Kings of College Basketball in 2015.

I’ll have a lot say over the next few days about Duke’s national championship win over Wisconsin, but for now Congratulations to the Duke Blue Devils and their fans. Mike Krzyzewski coached a masterpiece in the 2nd half. With Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow in foul trouble, Krzyzewski substituted brilliantly with Grayson Allen and Amile Jefferson. Allen …

Are the two best teams (Wisconsin and Duke) playing for the College Basketball National Title? I think so.

Wisconsin was a #1 seed. Duke was a #1 seed. Both opened the the season in the top 5. Wisconsin was 36-3 and won the Big 10 regular season and tournament titles. Duke is 34-4. They have lost one game since January 28, and have road wins at Wisconsin, Virginia, Louisville, and North Carolina. When …

Previewing an epic 2015 Final 4.

It really doesn’t get any better than this for a Final 4. You have Hall of Fame coaches, brand name programs, and some of best players in the country. Kentucky, Duke, and Wisconsin started the year in everyone’s top 5, and Michigan State was a pre-season top 25 team. With Kentucky going for unbeaten season, …

Duke carries the ACC Flag into the Final 4.

The streak is dead. The ACC’s 4 year drought of having a team in the Final 4 has come to an end, thanks to the Duke Blue Devils. Duke took down Gonzaga in the Elite 8 66-52. It is Mike Krzyzewski’s 12th Final 4, and now he has a shot at an incredible 5th …

After an Elite 8 NCAA Tourney, Notre Dame men’s basketball finally feels like part of the ACC.

When Syracuse and Pittsburgh joined the ACC, they instantly felt like part of the ACC. SyracuseDuke basketball games in 2014 were instant ratings hit. Pittsburgh’s Aaron Donald was part of a record setting haul of individual ACC football awards in 2013. Louisville joined the ACC this past year, their football team beat Notre Dame and …

Mike Krzyzewski and Rick Pitino on the verge of reaching another Final 4.

Mike Krzyzewski and Duke were expected to reach the Elite 8, but that doesn’t make their run through the NCAAs any less meaningful. Ask top 2 seeds Kansas and Villanova if a high seed guarantees an Elite 8. Duke was in no position to assume they’d make the Elite 8 either, after getting bounced in the …

Notre Dame was the 3 seed, Wichita State was the 7 seed, but many folks had the Irish has the underdog. Notre Dame proved yet again there are one the country’s finest offense teams with dizzying array shot-making and passing. When the Irish’s offense gets going, it is just great to watch.
