Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.
Woof – talk about a major faceplant. See my X thread below:
It is one thing to say you’re wasting the goodwill that you had vs. Clemson for the #Hokies with that road win – but it’s completely a different thing to for FSU to burn down the barn house. Yes FSU is going to be one of those teams you don’t want to play in the ACC tourney. 2/

4/ I can’t blame Mike Young for the turnovers (& there were a ton in the 2nd half) – but this was maybe the worst I’ve seen Virginia Tech play all year – and at the worst time. You have to be ready to play your best basketball all the time – VT didn’t today at all. #Hokies

A really bad performance from Virginia Tech. If the Hokies were at least competitive in the second half vs. Florida State, they might have got some grace on their computer numbers. Or at least if they split the series with Miami – and still looked competitive with Florida State. But any goodwill that the Hokies got from their road win over Clemson – was burned in a bonfire by Florida State today.
Virginia Tech is the most disappointing team of the week. Here’s the remaining schedule for the Hokies: On the road at Miami, home vs. Wake Forest, at North Carolina, home vs, Boston College (I’ll tell you I’m not confident that the Hokies defeat Boston College at home, either – I’ve blogged about this topic many times – Mike Young has a 1-6 record vs. Boston College), and on the road vs. Virginia. Your guess is as good as mine on how Virginia Tech plays in these final five games – and what the record is. At this point, I think the Hokies would have to win 4 of these 5 games and at least two ACC tournament games for NCAA tournament consideration – an FSU bonfire is really changing what Virginia Tech has to do. But vomiting on your home court doesn’t set you up for success.
Thoughts?
