We just looked at the basketball coaches with the hottest seats.
Who’s feeling better, but may still need to watch out?
We go from the coldest to the hottest.
0 – Ice Cold
1 – Still cool
2 – There’s smoke
3 – Getting Warm
4 – On Fire
5 – Start working on the resume
Jai Lucas, Miami = 0
Jai Lucas has been outstanding in his first year at Miami, going 21-6 (10-4) so far. Jai Lucas and Miami are headed to the NCAA Tournament, barring a total catastrophe.
Ryan Odom, Virginia = 0
The Ryan Odom hire from VCU has been a homerun so far. Virginia is ranked in the top 15 with a 24-3 (12-2) record, and they’ve been clearly the ACC’s number 2 team.
Andy Enfield, SMU = 0
In his second year at SMU, Enfield has got himself a team that should reach the NCAAs. They are 19-8 (8-6) and have won 4 of their last 5 games.
Will Wade, NC State = 0
Will Wade was the high-profile hire in the ACC last year. NC State was been a little uneven early in the season, but there’s nothing to indicate he wasn’t the right man for the job at this point. Just be careful what you ask in an interview. They are 19-8 (10-4) and closing in on an NCAA bid.
Luke Loucks, Florida State = 0
Florida State is 14-13 (7-7). The start was a little slow, but Loucks has FSU as the most improved ACC team over the last two months. We’ve seen glimpses of how good Florida State can be in the future.
Pat Kelsey, Louisville = 0
Pat Kelsey is in his second season at Louisville. Following the disastrous Kenny Payne era he has Louisville in the top 25 and a virtual lock for the NCAA tournament. He also beat Kentucky this year, and that helps.
Jon Scheyer, Duke = 0.25
The hotseat will never go to zero for Jon Scheyer until he wins a national title, but when the polls come out this week, he’ll have the number 1 team in the country after beating Michigan.
Kyle Smith, Stanford = 1
Kyle Smith got Stanford to the NIT last year, but with the NCAA tournament in their sight, Stanford has lost 7 of their last 9 games. The Cards won’t go to the NCAAs this year, and there will be a bit of heat to make it next year.
Brad Brownell, Clemson = 1.75
Brad Brownell made 1 NCAA tournament in his first seven years. That was a long time ago. Brownell was primed to have Clemson make their 3rd straight trip to the Big Dance, but then Clemson promptly lost 4 games in a row. Clemson fans will fume if they don’t make the NCAAs.
