Survive and advance! That is the common theme and boy has the ACC performed well in the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament. The ACC went 11-1 in the opening round of the NCAA and for the first time since 1995, there are 5 ACC teams in the in the Sweet 16. This ties an old Big East Conference record set in 2009, can you say new Big East?

Here’s an outlook on the teams remaining and their respective conference records (Not all conferences are represented):

Conference Record Teams Left
ACC 11-1 Duke, UNC, Notre Dame, NC State, Louisville
Pac-12 7-1 Arizona, Utah, UCLA
Big Ten 7-5 Wisconsin, Michigan St
Big 12 5-5 West Virginia, Oklahoma
SEC 4-4 Kentucky
Big East 5-5 Xavier
MVC 3-1 Wichita St
WCC 2-1 Gonzaga

For the first time since the 2001 Final Four, two ACC teams will meet in the East Semifinal game (Louisville-NC State). Seems as though the NCAA Tournament is looking more and more like the ACC Tournament as the years progress, no? Just kidding. But, the ACC has netted $28 million so far off this year’s tournament. With that being said, an ACC television network is on the horizon, no? Time will tell but it certainly has been one of the more memorable NCAA Tournaments for the ACC.

Coach K and his Duke Blue Devils are undefeated when they’ve been a 1 seed and they look poised, with everybody accepting their role. NC State probably won their best game all year defeating #1 seed Villanova.  Notre Dame won one for Coach Brey after he lost his mother that same morning. And I think Louisville pretty much shocked everybody, everybody saw Northern Iowa as a threat and Louisville was an afterthought. So all in all, it’s definitely been a good NCAA tournament this year, with a whole lot more to come I’m sure.
