The ACC’s 10 best Out of Conference Football Games for 2024 (6-10)

May is usually the time to start thinking about the college football season. We’re a little early too start a player analysis, but it’s time for a deep dive into the schedule we’re looking especially in the Out of Conference. We’ ‘ll also be looking at the in-ACC conference games later this month.

Games 1 – 5

6) Louisville vs  Notre Dame –  September 28, 2024

Louisville was the ACC program that finally stopped Notre Dame’s 30-game regular season streak against the ACC last year. It sits as the ACC’s second-best OOC win of the decade.  That adds some real spice to this game, as the Irish will be looking for revenge. The Cardinals took Notre Dame to the woodshed last season, especially in the second half, so there will be no fear for Louisville in this one.

7) Georgia Tech vs Notre Dame –  October 19, 2024

Brent Key’s task to rebuild Georgia Tech is right on track. He took over mid-season in 2022 and gave Georgia Tech a renewed sense of toughness just missing a bowl game. In 2023, he guided Georgia Tech to a winning season and bowl win. In 2024, the Jackets look to continue the momentum, and getting Notre Dame at home could provide that on a national level. The Jackets proved against Georgia last season, they could be competitive with one of the nation’s most talented teams. Can they take that next step against a program like Notre Dame and win? Haynes King is one of the best returning QBs in the ACC, and when you’ve got a QB you’ve got a chance against anyone.

8) SMU vs TCU –  September 21, 2024

I love a good regional rivalry game, and SMU and TCU are certainly that. SMU and TCU are less than 40 miles apart and have met over 100 times. The local atmosphere for a game like this is always electric. TCU was only 5-7 last season but is only a couple of years removed from playing in the national title game. SMU won 11 games last season in a top-25 season. This should be a fun matchup.

9) Clemson vs South Carolina – November 30, 2024

Clemson has won eight of the last nine games in this rivalry with South Carolina, but the Palmetto Bowl is still a huge deal. Clemson can’t have a great season without a win this game, and with playoff aspirations, Clemson almost certainly can’t lose this game and expect an at-large playoff bid. South Carolina isn’t likely to be a very good team, and if they knock off Clemson to win two of the last three years, Dabo Swinney might find another call from Tyler in Spartanburg.

10) Virginia Tech vs Rutgers – September 21, 2024

On the surface, Virginia vs Rutgers doesn’t look like a major OOC game, but looking closer this game is bigger than you might think. Virginia Tech opens the season with Vanderbilt, Marshall, and Old Dominion. If the Hokies are as good as most of us believe they will be they should be 3-0 heading into this game. Big 10 Rutgers isn’t a pushover either. They are coming off a 7-6 season that saw them beat Miami in their bowl game. If Virginia Tech wants to have a special season, a 4-0 start is a must.
