Louisville under Jeff Brohm has been very good. Louisville under Jeff Brohm keeps just stopping short of being great.
Saturday, following a ranked win over SMU, Louisville followed up that win with a 30-27 loss to Wake Forest at home. Now I don’t want to take anything away from Wake Forest. I love the Deacs and their coach Jake Dickert, but if you’re Louisville at home, this is a game you need to be winning.
Why does this keep happening to Louisville?
In 2023 Louisville beats #10 Notre Dame 33-20 to get to 6-0, and then the next week loses to unranked Pittsburgh.
In 2024 Louisville beats #11 Clemson 33-21, then loses the next week to Stanford 31-28.
In 2025 Louisville beats #2 Miami 24-20 and gets to 7-1, then loses Cal, Clemson, and SMU to miss the ACC Title with 2 of those games at home.
In 2026 Louisville beats #16 SMU 41-31 with a schedule that set Louisville up for a run to the ACC Title game, and they lose the next week to Wake Forest.
These aren’t isolated events. This is a pattern under Jeff Brohm, and why does this keep happening?
When Louisville is right, they can play with anyone, but there is always that 1 game that just kind of blows your mind. Brohm is averaging more than 9 wins a season at Louisville, but can’t seem to sustain success over the course of an entire season. All of these losses were to unranked teams.
It’s the one aspect of coaching Jeff Brohm has to figure out. If he can, the sky’s the limit for Louisville’s program.
