Wake Forest finishes remarkable 9 win season in Jake Dickert’s first year.

Friday night, Wake Forest closed out what can only be described as a truly remarkable 9 win season by beating Mississippi State in the Duke Mayo’s Bowl 43-29.

Going into the game Wake Forest was an underdog to a 5-7 Bulldog team. Mississippi State was a bad team, from a very pedestrian SEC. I don’t think any ACC team from the beginning of the season to the end was given less respect than Wake Forest.

Pre-season picked 16th in the league, all Wake Forest and new head coach Jake Dickert did was prove doubters wrong.

The Deacs had wins over 9-win SMU, and 11 win Virginia. This wasn’t a season built on empty victories.

If it hadn’t been for Virginia’s Tony Elliot, the Dickert would have been a slam-dunk winner of the ACC COY.

Wake Forest won a 8 total games the previous two seasons before Dickert’s arrival under a quality coach like Dave Clawson.

Other school fans are upset that they are losing a coordinator or some players or even both. Wake Forest lost an entire staff, hit the portal, and believed in themselves.

I’ve said previously Duke and Virginia’s success should give other ACC programs no excuse for not winning. I’m throwing Wake Forest in there. You lost a coach or two, some players – Well, if Wake Forest didn’t pack it in. You have to excuse.

It was a great job by Dickert, the staff and players.
