In the NCAA tournament post-season, there is one constant – Good pitching usually beats good offense.
So far in the super regionals, 7 of the 9 games were won when teams kept their opposition to 4 runs or less. Give me a strong pitching staff over a great offense all day, every day. That’s what wins in NCAA tournament.
UNC, on the verge of elimination Saturday against the USC Trojans, got a pitching masterpiece from Jason DeCaro in a 2 hit shutout. The Heels were widely regarded as having the best pitching staff in the ACC, and it showed today.
They play Sunday at 3 PM, and we’ll see if they can find their way back to Omaha.
It’s clear, if you want to have a team built for the post-season get yourself some pitchers.
