The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 1
What if Georgia Tech loses to Colorado?
There are a lot of unknowns about Georgia Tech this year: new QB, new OC, among others, but make no mistake: if Georgia Tech loses, it will be a disaster. Colorado, by virtually any non-Colorado publication, has the Buffaloes as one of the worst teams in the Big 12. Georgia Tech at home in front of a sellout loses, and questions will start about Brent Key, especially with a 0-2 start likely with Tennessee next. The Jackets will have lost 6 of their last 7 games with their only win over a bad Boston College team. Simply put, this is a game Georgia Tech can’t lose. If they do, they are headed to a 4-win or less season.
Can Clemson upset LSU?
There was a time that Clemson could beat anyone in college on a given day. Those days may be gone, but Clemson has a chance to prove there is still some life. Last year Clemson flopped at home against LSU. LSU is dealing with a ton of distractions, and Clemson has been able to focus on the game. I think Clemson can get the game to the 4th quarter. The Tigers’ defense should be able to keep Clemson in the game, but I don’t think new QB Christopher Vizzina is ready to win a game of this magnitude. Clemson loses, but they’ll be competitive.
Is Florida State’s Mike Norvell done with a loss to SMU?
Florida State’s Mike Norvell needs this win so badly. After SMU is Alabama, then Central Arkansas, but then it’s Virginia, at Louisville, at Miami, and Clemson. A 2-2 start without a win over a credible team with those 4 teams, and I think it’s a wrap on the Norvell era. How could it not be? FSU didn’t really impress against New Mexico State, but a win is a win. A good SMU team is on Labor Night… It might be Norvell’s last stand.
