Something is broken with the Pittsburgh program. When the calendar turns to November, Pittsburgh largely calls it a season.
After November 1, Pitt in 3 years has won 2 games.
In 2023, Pitt had 3 double-digit losses in 4 games to finish the year 3-9. In 2024, Pitt started the year 7-6, then lost a whopping 6 straight games to end the year. In 2025, Pitt was 7-2, and was uncompetitive in home games against Notre Dame and Miami, then had a listless bowl game in a 23-17 loss to East Carolina.
There was a great performance in Atlanta to knock Georgia Tech out of the ACC Title chase, but that could say more about Georgia Tech flailing to the finish line than Pitt.
That’s a 2-12 record after November 1st. That’s not a hiccup, that’s a bona fide trend, and it makes you wonder if Pat Narduzzi and Pitt peaked in 2021-2022 when they won 20 games in 2 years.
Freshman QB Mason Heintschel looked like a certain future star, but really regressed as the season progressed. Miami, Notre Dame, and East Carolina pressured him into several mistakes. He forced passes, and in general, couldn’t be trusted to make plays when Pitt needed them. He was good in the 1st half of the Georgia Tech game, but who didn’t look like an NFL QB against Georgia Tech’s defense most of the year?
Pat Narduzzi will be back, but this program feels stuck in the mud. Even if Pittsburgh starts off next year 6-0 or 6-1 does anyone feel like the Panthers can get the season home?
Not if you’ve been watching the last 3 years.
