NCAA Bracket Released. Was it fair for ACC teams?

The NCAA Bracket has been released.  The ACC got 8 teams in, but was it fair for the league or not? It’s hard to argue that the ACC should have gotten more than 8 teams, so I am OK with that.

Duke #1 Seed East

This region has UConn, Michigan State, Kansas, and St. Johns. That’s all the teams with coaches who have won National Titles.  It looks tougher on paper, but only St. John’s is peaking coming into the tournament. The real question is Duke’s health. A number 1 seed was a given.

Louisville #6 Seed East

No problem with Louisville being a #6 seed.

Clemson #8 Seed South

Clemson was hovering around the 7,8,9 line for the last couple of weeks. They ended up an 8, and hard to argue as they largely didn’t play all that well down the stretch. A little run in the ACCT almost got them to a 7, but in the end, this is fair.

UNC #6 Seed South

UNC has a quality resume, but the loss of Caleb Wilson limits their ceiling, so they were seeded appropriately. They also get sent to Greenville, SC which is just 4 hours from Chapel Hill, NC. I’d actually be pretty pleased if I were a UNC fan.

NC State #11 Seed West

This is probably an ACC team’s biggest gripe. NC State was thought to be safely in, even as they struggled the last 2-3 weeks of the season. There was almost no talk of them being in the Last 4 in, but well they are in.

SMU #11 Seed MidWest

SMU was definitly on the bubble, and I thought they might make it, but it was not a given. They made the field and that’s all that matters.

Virginia #3 Seed MidWest

I was concerned that Virginia would be mis-seeded at 4, but the committee got it right. I really like this bracket for Virginia too, where I think they can cause some damage.

Miami #7 Seed West

Miami as a 7 seed is fine. Miami as 7 playing a road game playing a 10 seed Missouri in St. Louis is a crime. I’m sorry if you are double digit you shouldn’t get home games. Miami has a big complaint.
