Is Mike Norvell’s fate sealed at FSU after loss to NC State?

Well, Mike Norvell and FSU lost another game. The Noles stand 5-6 (2-6) after an ugly 21-11 loss at NC State. Twice in the 4th quarter, when the score was 14-11, Florida State failed to field punts, where NC State recovered both. To make matters worse FSU missed a FG in the 4th quarter.

As one of the ESPN announcers said, it was a special teams meltdown in the 4th quarter by Florida State.

Florida State is now 3-13 in the ACC the last two years. That is the poorest record in the conference – in other words, over the last 2 seasons, the Florida State Seminoles have been the worst football in the ACC. Boston College may go winless this year in the ACC and would still have a better record than FSU.

That is unacceptable for any school in the ACC, but especially for Florida State.

Now, Florida State has to go to 3-7 Florida to make a bowl game.

Will it matter, though? Should it matter?

This could potentially be Norvell’s 4th losing season out of 6 at FSU, and the program save that one magical day against Alabama is basically a football corpse.

A win over Florida just might give Norvell a put-up-or-shut-up 2026, but lose for the 5th time in 7 years to your rival, while your other biggest rival, Miami, has lapped you as a program.

Then it’s a wrap.

I don’t see how Florida State could justify bringing Norvell back.
