It happened again. Georgia Tech, with a supremely talented baseball team, choked on the national stage again.
Make that 8 straight losses with Super Regionals on the line for Georgia Tech, who haven’t made Super Regionals in 20 years and counting. They blew an 8-2 lead Saturday night, and a 7-3 7th inning lead Monday to a scrappy, gritty Oklahoma team that showed the kind of guts Georgia Tech baseball teams just don’t have on the biggest stages. Yes, this team won 50 games, the ACC title and put up all kinds of eye-popping offensive numbers, but in the end, this team, fair or not will be remembered as a footnote of being another team that blew it in a regional final.
Georgia Tech’s last 8 games with a chance to clinch a Regional Championship:
2008 L 8-0 Georgia
2008 L 18-6 Georgia
2009 L 12-8 Southern Miss
2010 L 8-1 Alabama
2010 L 10-8 Alabama
2013 L 7-1 Vanderbilt
2026 L 15-8 Oklahoma
2026 ??? OklahomaThe wait will be at least 3,702 days https://t.co/r6Yo4nGmOq

There are other schools that are tortured in particular sports, but it’s hard to have such across-the-board failures in your athletic department.
Georgia Tech football starts 2025 8-0 and in the top 10, with whispers of playoff and loses 4 of their 5 final games. Georgia Tech ends up making it 12 years since their last 10 win season. 10 years since their last win over Georgia. It’s been 3 straight single-digit losses to the Bulldogs.
We certainly can’t forget the 2 TD lead in Athens with 5 minutes left, only to lose after 8 OTs. Simply put, just another footnote.
Men’s basketball has been a corpse for more than 15 years. Georgia Tech hasn’t even won an NCAA tournament game since 2010. Yes, there was the COVID ACC title, but that season ended without a NCAA tournament victory.
Georgia Tech is not a bad athletic department. It’s competitive, but when the stage is brightest, it’s teams just don’t show up in just about any sport.
Danny Hall, James Ramsey, Damon Brian Gregory, Josh Pastner, Geoff Collins, Brent Key – the coaches change, but the result is always the same. Georgia Tech just never shows up when it matters – never, ever in any major sport.
I seriously wonder if I’ll ever see a win over Georgia in football, a 10 win football season, a super regional, or NCAA Mens basketball win ever again. It’s been a decade of torture for Georgia Tech fans.
