UNC
When your football coach is the legendary Bill Belichick, you are going to be in the news. Many say there is no such thing as bad publicity, and everything UNC did in the off-season was under a microscope. Now it’s time for football, though, and everyone is wondering how Belichick will do in the college game. It’s a good question, and what we do know is that the sports world will be watching.
Will Go 9-3 (5-3) if:
They start the year 3-0. TCU is a credible opponent on Labor Day, and if UNC gets by them, then you’re probably winning at Charlotte and beating Richmond. You win at UCF, and I’m feeling like UNC could definitely win 9 or 10 games. There is a tremendous amount of turnover on the team, but that may not be a bad thing for a team that went 6-7 last year and lost its final 3 games. Of course, when you have one of the greatest coaches in NFL history on the sideline, you always have a shot to be better than the sum of your parts.
Will Go 6-6 (4-4) if:
The Heels stay mired in a football fog. UNC was never awful under Mack Brown, but never great. They were just kind of there. Will that be the case this year? If so you could see UNC start 2-3 with losses to TCU, UCF, and Clemson, then even though the schedule isn’t all that tough, a 4-3 would barely qualify for a bowl. Gio Lopez, the South Alabama transfer, will have big lights on him due to Belichick’s stature in the game of football. If he can’t handle things, and we’ll have a good feeling in the opener, the season could just be meh in Chapel Hill.
