ACC Football Coach Hotseat Rankings through almost midpoint of season (1-9)

We’re almost at the mid-point of the season, and it’s been a while since we’ve checked in our coaching hotseat rankings. Already one ACC coach has been let go. Who needs to be on alert?

Check out our 10-17 hotseat rankings

We go from the coldest to the hottest.

0 – Ice Cold

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Brent Key, Georgia Tech = 0

Brent Key has completely rebuilt the Georgia Tech program following the Geoff Collins era. 5-0 and ranked in the top 20? Life is good in Atlanta.

Mario Cristobal, Miami  = 0

How do you go from hotseat rumblings to an ice cold? Start the year 5-0, and whether the polls say it or not, have the best team in the country. Oh yeah, you just passed your biggest rival, Florida State.

Jake Dickert, Wake Forest = 0

Jake Dickert is in his first year at Wake Forest, and at 3-2 he has the Deacs looking well coached and eyeing a bowl game.

Manny Diaz, Duke – 0

Manny Diaz won 9 games in his first year at Duke. This year was a bit of a slow start, but Duke is 4-2 and has one of the best offenses in the ACC.

Rhett Lashlee, SMU = .25

The biggest concern at SMU is whether Rhett Lashlee has any interest in the Arkansas job. Lashlee is coming off an ACC Title appearance in 2024. They haven’t quite met expectations this year at 3-2, but they love him at SMU.

Tony Elliot, Virginia  = .5

Tony Elliot went from arguably the hottest seat coming into the season to one of the coolest. At 5-1 and in the top 25, Virginia might be the most improved team in the ACC.

Fran Brown, Syracuse = .5

Fran Brown won 10 games last year. He’s fine, but Syracuse has tanked, losing 2 straight in ugly fashion since their starting QB Steve Angeli went down.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson – 1.5

The two-time national champion Dabo Swinney with rumblings of a hot seat? A 2-3 start at Clemson will do that to you. If it can eventually happen to Bobby Bowden, it can happen to Swinney. A strong finish would help.
