ACC Team of the Week : Syracuse – for a 30 – 27 win over SMU
17. Georgia Tech (2-6, 1-4)
Last Week: 17
If Georgia Tech has another win in them, I don’t see it. The season has just been a complete embarrassment, and the effects may be felt for years. Louisville is this week.
16. Stanford (4-5, 2-3)
Last Week: 14
Despite the 52-24 loss to Louisville, Stanford has shown signs of life this year. The Cards are off this week.
15. California (3-5, 2-4)
Last Week: 13
Cal got thumped by NC State 31 – 10. They get a week off to try and salvage something out of the season.
14. Boston College (4-4, 2-3)
Last Week: 12
Boston College’s momentum was stuffed in a 47-2 loss to Duke. Their bowl chances aren’t dead, though. They do face a FSU team that just fired their coach.
13. Virginia (4-5, 2-4)
Last Week: 10
Virginia’s season has totally gone off the rails. They were humiliated by Wake Forest 51-7. They do go on a BYE to try and correct things. QB Beau Pribula has been a total bust.
12. Florida State (3-5, 1-4)
Last Week: 9
A listless performance against Clemson turned out to be Mike Norvell’s last game at Florida State. The Noles head to Boston College
11. NC State (4-4, 2-3)
Last Week: 16
NC State fired their coach, and then played one of their best games of the year in a 3 TD win over Cal. The game with Duke will be crucial to the Wolfpack’s bowl hopes.
10. Syracuse (4-4, 2-4)
Last Week: 15
Syracuse has come alive and is playing spoiler. They knocked off SMU this past week, and now they get Clemson at home.
9. Pitt (6-3, 3-3)
Last Week: 11
I’m not sure how well Pitt really played this weekend, but it was Georgia Tech, so they didn’t need their best effort. They do get a BYE week to enjoy the win.
8. North Carolina (4-4, 2-3)
Last Week: 8
UNC has now taken Notre Dame and Miami into the 4th quarter. This is an improved team trying to get to a bowl. They can’t afford to slip up against UConn.
7. Clemson (5-3, 3-2)
Last Week: 7
Clemson QB Tait Reynolds played his most complete game of the season. If Clemson beats Syracuse, a 9-3 season is still possible.
6. SMU (6-2, 4-2)
Last Week: 3
SMU has been playing with fire all year, and Syracuse finally burned them. If they aren’t ready, it could be 2 losses in a row with Virginia Tech next.
5. Duke (6-2, 3-2)
Last Week: 6
One of the great mysteries of the ACC Season will be how Georgia Tech beat a fringe top 25 Duke team. Duke heads to NC State this week.
4. Virginia Tech (6-2, 3-2)
Last Week: 5
Virginia Tech and SMU is an elimination game for the ACC Title game. The winner is a top 25 team.
3. Louisville (5-3, 4-2)
Last Week: 4
Louisville can stay in the ACC race if they take care of business at reeling Georgia Tech.
2. Wake Forest (7-1, 5-1)
Last Week: 2
Wake Forest destroyed Virginia this past week. Merrimack will give them a chance to get some players rested and healthy for the stretch run to the ACC Title game and the playoffs.
1. Miami (8-0, 6-0)
Last Week: 1
Miami is 8-0 and #1, but barely survived North Carolina. That defense has got to get better if they are going to win at Notre Dame in what might be the college football game of the year.
