ACC Team of the Week : Pittsburgh – for a 35-33 win over Virginia Tech
17. Georgia Tech (1-3, 0-1)
Last Week: 17
Stanford lost 57-3 this week, and you can’t move Georgia Tech ahead of them because, yes, Georgia Tech lost to Stanford in their most recent outing. The Jackets currently have the ACC’s worst team on lockdown. Duke is this week.
16. Stanford (2-3, 1-2)
Last Week: 16
Thank goodness for that win over Georgia Tech. Stanford got clobbered by Wake Forest, and their reward is a great Notre Dame team this week.
15. Boston College (2-2, 0-1)
Last Week: 14
Boston College has actually shown some fight the last two weeks. They might have an upset in them before the season is over.
14. California (2-3, 1-1)
Last Week: 11
Cal’s season has really gone south. That was an ugly loss to UNLV. Virginia Tech comes to Cal.
13. Syracuse (2-2, 0-1)
Last Week: 15
Syracuse survived UConn. They head to Virginia trying to get over .500 for the season.
12. North Carolina (2-2, 0-1)
Last Week: 10
UNC didn’t play all that bad against Notre Dame, but the Irish were just too good. Now they head on the road to play 5-0 Pittsburgh.
11. Clemson (3-2, 2-1)
Last Week: 9
Clemson had some moments against Miami, but they were just overmatched. Clemson isn’t anywhere close to the talent level of the better teams in the country. They are off this week.
10. Virginia (3-2, 1-1)
Last Week: 8
I think it’s time to worry about Virginia. They got thumped at Florida State. If they lose to Syracuse at home, the wheels will completely come off.
9. Louisville (2-3, 1-2)
Last Week: 7
Louisville is in real trouble after dropping a game to NC State for their 3rd loss on the season. The Cards get an improved FSU time on Friday night.
8. NC State (3-2, 1-1)
Last Week: 13
I don’t know how Dave Doeren does it, but when his seat gets hottest, he wins. This past week the Wolfpack knocked off Louisville. If they beat a good Wake Forest team, an 8 or 9 win season is possible.
7. Florida State (3-2, 1-1)
Last Week: 12
Florida State is quickly turning into a team you better watch for. They pushed Alabama, and then trounced Virginia. If Louisville is not on their A game, FSU is going to beat them.
6. Virginia Tech (4-1, 0-1)
Last Week: 5
Virginia Tech took a tough loss to Pittsburgh, but it doesn’t have to derail the season. Now if the Hokies lose at Cal, then we have a problem.
5. Duke (4-0, 1-0)
Last Week: 6
Duke shouldn’t have much trouble with a terrible Georgia Tech this weekend. The real question is how Duke plays as the considerable favorite.
4. Pitt (5-0, 2-0)
Last Week: 4
Pitt got to 5-0 with a big win at Virginia Tech, but they lost QB Mason Heintschel for the season. Let’s see how things go against UNC and their decent defense.
3. Wake Forest (4-1, 2-1)
Last Week: 3
Wake Forest is a top 25 team even if they aren’t ranked that way in the polls. Now the Deacs play as the favorite at NC State.
2. SMU (4-1, 2-1)
Last Week: 2
SMU looks off in recent weeks. The BYE week should be a nice reset.
1. Miami (5-0, 3-0)
Last Week: 1
It felt like Miami was playing at half speed and still completely cruised at Clemson. The BYE gets them ready for the rest of the season and a possible playoff run.
