Louisville
Louisville quietly played some of the best football in the ACC from mid-October to the end of the season. The Cardinals won 6 of the final 8 eight games including a bowl victory to finish the year 8-5. Head Coach Scott Satterfield never looked totally bought in at Louisville, and Cardinal fans weren’t sorry to see him go especially after highly regarded and former Louisville player Jeff Brohm returned. Louisville oozes potential not only this season but in its overall program.
Will Go 10-2 (7-1) if:
New QB Jack Plummer and the offense come together quickly. Plummer was one of the better transfers in the ACC, and Louisville may not have much if any drop-off at quarterback as he takes over for the departed Malik Cunningham. There isn’t a lot of returning experience on the offense. Still, if Louisville gets by a very tricky opener with Georgia Tech then there is a good chance Louisville starts the year 4-0. If you can steal 2 of 3 against NC State, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh then Louisville could be 6-1 before facing Duke, Virginia Tech, and Virginia with a game at Miami and a home game with Kentucky to end the season where I can see the Cardinals getting through that finish with just one loss.
Will Go 7-5 (5-3) if:
Louisville’s new starters on offense and defense take too much time to adjust to Jeff Brohm’s new systems. Louisville returns less than 50% of their previous starters and will be instituting new schemes on offense on defense. There’s no guarantee those changes take right away, and while the schedule doesn’t have Clemson, Florida State, or North Carolina it’s not a cakewalk. Notre Dame and Kentucky are formidable OOC opponents. There are tough games at NC State and at Pittsburgh. Games with Duke and Georgia Tech can go either way.
