Central Florida simply can’t refuse offers like Florida’s to play Out of Conference games.

I’m a fan of the little guy. I think the Group of 5 should have a avenue to reach the playoffs. I’m a fan of Central Florida and their goal to reach the playoffs. Last year I wrote “Let Central Florida have the national championship fun.”

I said this back in April during Loyola Chicago’s run to the Final 4.

In college football it continues to irk me that the Power 5 conferences have locked out the Group of 5 schools. There are over 130 FBS schools and basically half are eliminated from the playoffs before the season starts. I don’t care how it happens but the Group of 5 schools need someway into the college football playoff. Either with an 8 team playoff, and the 5 Power 5 Champs + 2 Wild Card Teams + Best Group of 5, or 7 highest ranked power 5 schools + Best Group of 5 team.

You can expand the playoffs by 1 team, and make the 4 seed play the top Group of 5 team, rather than giving give your 4 seed a defacto home game ala Alabama this year. Until the Group of 5 has an avenue into the playoff format, college football’s post-season won’t come close to college basketball’s.

I’m on your side Central Florida, but I can’t get behind what you are currently doing.

Should they accept the offer? Absolutely 100% yes. Florida is not known for scheduling difficult OOC games, and this game, this series is a big time risk for them. There is nothing to gain for Gators – NONE, ZERO, ZILCH.

As Barrett Sallee says.

So far UCF has refused this series, and they need to reconsider. TCU and Utah moved up to Power 5 conferences with wins at Virginia, Clemson, Baylor and Michigan. They also had top 5 seasons. Boise State’s record speaks for itself.

I understand for UCF it’s not fair. In a perfect football world they shouldn’t have to do this, but it’s not a perfect football world. Group of 5 teams have to do more than they should, but when an opportunity presents itself they have to take it.

I’m fully on board with an 8 team playoff that has a top 12 Group of Five team included, but until then UCF has to play and win games like this.
