How did ACC Football fall so fast after peaking in 2016?

In 2016 ACC football was on top of the world. Clemson was a national champion. There were 9 bowl wins. Florida State had just beat Michigan in the Orange Bowl. Louisville had the reigning Heisman trophy winner, and ACC teams were routinely beating SEC teams on the field. It was not a debate. The ACC …

After win over Georgia Tech, Trevor Lawrence getting closer to taking over as starting QB at Clemson.

Eventually Trevor Lawrence was going to be the starting quarterback at Clemson. Saturday’s easy victory over Georgia Tech may have moved up the timeline. I’ve been a Kelly Bryant guy. Clemson doesn’t beat Texas A&M without him. He’s a very good quarterback, but he doesn’t have Lawrence’s ceiling as a player. Clemson can cruise to …

Boston College miserably fails test against Purdue to be relevant.

Boston College was so close. They came into the season with the 2nd most pre-season All-ACC players. They had just gotten ranked in the top 25 this past week. In some circles, Boston College was being called the 2nd best team in the ACC. The Eagles were in position to start the year 5-0 with …

Florida State Opponent Preview: Northern Illinois

Northern Illinois Things really look grim in Tallahassee. Willie Taggart is starting to look a bit over his head as the starting Head Coach at Florida State. While I am not buying that he isn’t the man for the job, I do believe he will be facing the hot seat in 2019. This is a …

Around the #ACC Blogosphere For September 20, 2018

Despite being 3-0, RubbingtheRock says Clemson’s offense lacks an identity.  ACCNation makes their Week 4 ACC game predictions.  Oh boy… When should Florida State start playing for next year asks Tomahawknation. What does BCInterruption think about Boston College football being ranked for the first time in nearly 10 years – pretty good I’d say. …

Duke defensive backs stepping up through injuries

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke prides itself on fulfilling a “next man up” mentality – one many programs strive to fulfill yet fall short of — but the Blue Devils’ defensive backs are testing the limits. Through an injury-plagued 3-0 start, this week marks the first time Duke has slotted the same five starters in the …

Army and throwback West Pointer Kenneth Brinson face Oklahoma

Army’s trip to face No. 5-ranked Oklahoma Saturday represents an interesting throwback game. The reasons are beyond simply that the schools last played in 1961, with the Sooners winning 14-8 in a marquee event at the old Yankee Stadium. In those days, the Black Knights routinely took on what are now called Power 5 …

Ranking the Power 5 Football Conferences after Week 3

While the playoff committee doesn’t rank the power 5 conference, there is no way conference strength – which means OOC results doesn’t figure in to a committee members thought process. Let me point out on my philosophy on these rankings – your most recent  OOC results count a lot, and you’ll see me reference that …

Quarter of the season grades for each ACC football team.

Duke  : A+ David Cutcliffe is working his magic again. There are road wins at Northwestern and Baylor, and that is without starting QB Daniel Jones who got hurt in the Northwestern game. Is Paul Johnson capable of fixing what’s broke with Georgia Tech football?

I’ve long been a Paul Johnson fan. I really like him, and the unique identity he brings to Georgia Tech with his option offense. As recently as two years ago he beat Georgia and had a 9 win season. There is a top 10 year, Orange Bowl appearances, ACC Titles and ACC Championship game appearances …

After ugly loss to Syracuse, FSU’s Willie Taggart looks in over his head.

Florida State was a bad football team last year. They went 7-6 by the skin of their teeth. Jimbo Fisher left a total mess for new head coach Willie Taggart, but come on after a 30-7 loss at Syracuse, the Noles should not be this bad. They were whooped at home by Virginia Tech to …

Florida State Opponent Preview: Syracuse

Syracuse Week two, what can I say except YIKES! At least Florida State pulled the victory. Upon initial viewing, I was immediately concerned with Florida State’s performance. While these concerns haven’t subsided completely, they’ve certainly mellowed. Samford, as I pointed out in my previous preview, featured an FCS stud quarterback with an offense tailored towards …
