ACC Bowl Projections for 11/25/20125

With only 6 ACC bowl eligible teams, and Miami and UNC ineligible for bowls in 2012 we will eliminate the Military and Independence Bowl from our discussion. Those bowls get the 7th and 8th bowl eligible teams from the ACC, when there is one available.

Belk
Charlotte, NC Bank of America Stadium
Dec. 27, 6:30 pm, ESPN
ACC No. 5 vs. Big East No. 3

Projection: NC State vs. Cincinnati

The Belk bowl wants a hometown team. We thought it would be Duke, but NC State works out fine for them, even if Tom O’Brien won’t be coaching in Raleigh next year.

Russell Athletic
Orlando, FL Florida Citrus Bowl
Dec. 28, 5:30 pm, ESPN
Big East No. 2 vs. ACC No. 3

Projection: Rutgers vs. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech is the best of a bad situation for the Russell Athletic Bowl. Actually this is a mildly interesting bowl game with a good Rutgers team

Franklin American Mortgage Music City
Nashville, TN LP Field
Dec. 31, 12:00 pm, ESPN
SEC No. 7 vs. ACC No. 6

Projection: Vanderbilt vs. Duke

Vandy is a really rock solid team. Duke won’t care they are in a bowl, enjoy it Blue Devils!

Hyundai Sun
El Paso, TX Sun Bowl
Dec. 31, 2:00 pm, CBS
ACC No. 4 vs. Pac-12 No. 4

Projection: Georgia Tech vs Washington

We still don’t know for if Georgia Tech gets a bowl waiver if they lose the ACCCG to fall to 6-7. If they do, by ACC rule they can’t fall farther than the Sun.

Chick-fil-A
Atlanta, GA Georgia Dome
Dec. 31, 7:30 pm, ESPN
ACC No. 2 vs. SEC No. 5

Projection: Clemson vs Texas A&M

This looks like a very intriguing game, but it’s one the Tigers want no part of. The Aggie offense  might literally put up 700 yards of offense against the Tiger’s porous defense. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Clemson better hope the opponent is LSU or another SEC team.

Discover Orange
January 1st, 8:30 pm, ESPN
Miami Gardens, FL Sun Life Stadium
ACC No. 1 vs. BCS At-Large

Projection: Florida State vs. Louisville

As I said before FSU couldn’t have a great season without beating Florida. They didn’t but winning the ACC and winning the Orange would still make for a solid season. John Swofford would never admit, but he’s praying Georgia Tech doesn’t pull the upset Saturday.
