Summer ACC Football Coaching Hotseat rankings. (6-11)

We last looked at the ACC Football Coaches after bowl season. Since then we’ve had the spring, and 3 new programs have entered the ACC. How are those hot seat rankings looking as we’re only weeks from the season?

Rankings 12-17 | Ranking 1-5

We go from the coldest to the hottest.

0 – Ice Cold

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Rhett Lashlee, SMU – 0

SMU fans love some Rhett Lashlee after an 11 win season. He’s rebuilt SMU to such a  level that some are calling SMU a darkhorse contender in the ACC this season.

Jeff Brohm, Louisville = 0.1

Jeff Brohm and Louisville exceeded expectations winning 10 games and getting to the ACC title game, but losing their final 3 games does leave just a smidge of a question going into next year.

Brent Pry, Virginia Tech = 0.5

Brent Key, Georgia Tech  = 0.5

Brent Key has done wonders taking over the trainwreck left by Geoff Collins. Last season was a nice surprise getting to a bowl game and then winning it to finish 7-6. Key and Georgia Tech had some early season missteps to Bowling Green and Boston College, and Key will have to clean up those types of games.

Dabo Swinney, Clemson  = 0.5

30 wins in 3 years is an extension at most schools. For Clemson and Dabo Swinney it’s a cause for concern. Sorry Dabo Swinney has raised the bar at Clemson that much. He’s fine, but there is a sliver of pressure to have a big season in 2024.

Dave Clawson, Wake Forest = 0.5

Wake Forest fans love Dave Clawson, but the wheels came off in a disastrous 4-8 (1-7) season last year. Can Clawson and the Deacs rebound in 2023?

Dave Doeren, NC State = 1

Dave Doeren has turned NC State into one of the ACC’s most consistent winners. The Wolfpack have six 8 or 9-win seasons in his last seven years. After 11 years though, that 10 win season remains elusive, and what can you say was NC State’s signature win OOC? Doeren is certainly safe, but just 1 mediocre season and the questions will come.
