Summer ACC Football Coaching Hotseat rankings. (12-17)

We last looked at the ACC Football Coaches after bowl season. Since then we’ve had the spring, and 3 new programs have entered the ACC. How are those hot seat rankings looking as we’re only weeks from the season?

We go from the coldest to the hottest.

0 – Ice Cold

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh = 1.5

In 2021 and 2022 Pat Narduzzi was the talk of ACC coaches. 20 wins, an ACC title, and two top 25 seasons. This was after 6 years of uneven football. 2023 was a disastrous 3-9 year. If another losing season occurs, the hot seat will really ramp up for Narduzzi.

Troy Taylor, Stanford = 2.5

Troy Taylor went 30-8 at Sacramento State, and was to brought in to rebuild Stanford, and year 1 didn’t go well. Taylor went 3-9 in 2023 and the majority of losses were by blowout. He needs to show a move in a positive direction this year.

Tony Elliot, Virginia  = 3

Tony Elliot has had to deal with a lot at Virginia, and some of the worst of it has nothing to do with football. He seems well-liked by his players and UVa fans, but at the end of the day, he still needs win football games. There are only 6 wins in two years, and that’s a real problem.

Mack Brown, UNC  = 3.5

Mack Brown in September through mid-October looks like the coach of a top 15 program. The 2nd half of the season is where the Tar Heels seem to collapse over and over. That is why Mack Brown is feeling the heat going into year 6 of his tenure.

Justin Wilcox, California = 3.75

Justin Wilcox has never had a winning season in the Pac-12 in his seven years at Cal. He hasn’t had a winning overall season in 4 years. Cal at times has looked decent under Wilcox, but time is running out for him.

Mario Cristobol, Miami = 4

Mario Cristobal’s 12-13 record at Miami is not acceptable. Sure he’s been the Nick Saban of the transfer portal, but it needs to translate into wins – like right now.
