Finding any positives in Louisville’s blowout loss to Alabama.

When you lose 51 – 14 it’s not easy to find a lot of positives. That’s what happened to Louisville as they got flat hammered by Alabama, but we’re going to give it a shot.

First getting blown out by Alabama doesn’t end a season. Frankly they do it to most everyone they play. USC lost 52-6 to Alabama in 2016, and ended up finishing the season in the top 5. In 2015 Alabama whooped Georgia 38-10 in Athens. That Georgia team won 10 games. The same season Alabama beat Michigan State 38-0 in the College Football Playoffs. That was a very good Michigan State team. Getting blown out by Alabama doesn’t necessarily mean you are bad team. Remember that Louisville…

QB Jawon Pass showed good poise, with glimpses of his potential. The game never looked to big for Pass. He threw a lot of solid passes especially in the middle of the field. He floated a couple of balls, but for the most part Pass didn’t play badly. Only Clemson will have similar talent to what Alabama can bring defensively. Pass is going to going some big passing games this year. I guarantee that.

In pass blocking especially, the Louisville offensive line didn’t look overwhelmed. Yes Alabama won the line of scrimmage, but they didn’t feast on QB Jawon Pass. He had passing lanes, and he had time to throw the ball for a decent portion of the game.

The receiving crew can make plays. They made a few too many penalties, but they held their own against the Alabama secondary.

Louisville competed until the very end of the game. I never felt like Louisville packed it during the game – not even once.

The Cardinals are 0-1, and it doesn’t matter if they had lost 250-0 or 10-9. It is just one loss. Louisville plays only 1 more game against a team that may approach what they saw against Alabama and that’s Clemson. The caliber of team Louisville will face the rest of the year will be significantly less than what they saw Saturday.

That’s something right?
