Big Win for Louisville Men’s Basketball over Kentucky

Merry Christmas from all of us at All Sports Discussion.  We appreciate you checking out our Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) coverage all year long.

We’re late with our post here, but better late than never.  On December 21, 2016, the University of Louisville Cardinals get a really big men’s hoops win vs. in-state SEC rival University Kentucky Wildcats.  Like many in this series, it was a special game – a matchup of two top-ten teams – and a game that I think the Cardinals needed to win much more than Kentucky.

Coming into the game, Louisville had last the last four vs. Kentucky – lose more than that, and people start focusing on “a streak” (something that the University of Virginia knows very well in its string of 13 straight Commonwealth Cup football series losses with Virginia Tech).  Louisville got this win with stifling defense holding Kentucky to 5 of 22 from three-point land (that’s 22.7%) and 23 of 58 from the field (39.7%).  You look at the Cardinals roster – and you see bunch of trees that are 6’7″ or taller.  The Cardinals are a matchup nightmare for many teams because of their size.

With this win, I think you can start mentioning Louisville in that group of four teams, which also include Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia, who are in that picture of winning the ACC.  Whether Louisville can win the ACC depends on how much it’s offense can improve.  The Cardinals aren’t hitting a lot of shots right now.

That said, what’s important right now for Louisville is that they got a big win vs. that blue blood in Kentucky. Congratulations to our ACC brethren.
