Since 1955 the ACC has had 41 teams take their shot at being the first ACC team since Wake Forest’s 1955 CWS winning team. It’s one of the most infamous ACC steaks that exist. Each year the question gets asked to any ACC team that makes the CWS. It’s Virginia’s turn this year, and as the highest remaining seed they have a real shot at pulling the feat off. Having one of the best pitching staffs in the country doesn’t hurt either.

Obviously for Virginia, stopping streak, is secondary to actually winning the title. I’m implying that it isn’t either, but it’s still a notable accomplishment to be the team stop the streak. I still don’t think Florida State got enough credit for being “the team” the team to stop the SEC’s streak. Usually what happens is over time though is being the streak stopper or last team to do something gains and gains in historical stature.

There are teams like the 1974 Notre Dame basketball team that ended UCLA’s winning streak. Heck that Wake Forest 1955 baseball team has been brought up so many times, they are now almost legendary in status. What about that Clemson 57 game losing streak that the Tigers have in Chapel Hall against UNC basketball? These things seem to take on a life of their own after while, who wouldn’t want to be known as the team to stop a streak or be the first to do something?

Virginia you’re on deck now with a chance at history.

For Virginia fans, and others interested in the College World Series, @HokieSmash sent me this ACC press release.
