Happy New Year from all of us at All Sports Discussion. You can follow us on Twitter at @AllSportsDACC.

Let’s talk some awesomeness first – the ACC will likely have four teams in the Associated Press Top Ten most of the season – and will repeatedly play nationally televised scheduled games vs. each other over the next several weeks. If you’re John Swofford, you can’t pay for better publicity.

So – here it is – my random thoughts on each of the ACC men’s basketball teams (this is not a rankings blog post – that is done by my esteemed colleague, @ztevans). Here we go!

Notre Dame – Perhaps my ACC team of the week through Monday, January 5, 2015. The Irish had a terrific two game swing in wins over Georgia Tech (and the Jackets are much better than everyone thinks – we’ll talk about the more below). Nationally, the Irish have the second best assist-to-turnover ratio, the third best scoring offense, are tenth in total assists, and have the ninth best three-point field goal percentage. The Irish have a master coach in Mike Brey (someone who was tutored by Coach K), a star player in Jerian Grant, and experienced seniors (including a Major League Baseball prospect in Pat Connaughton) – everything you need for a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Duke – The Blue Devils have the fourth best scoring offense in the country (and the best in the ACC). This is an offense that could take them very deep in March. Ahh – but Duke has to improve on defense (and this has been a criticism of the Devils over the last couple of years). While 60.6 points per game isn’t bad, it has to get better as ACC conference season rolls along.

Virginia – The Hoos lost Joe Harris (Joey Hoops to the #GoACC clan) and might actually be better than last year. The Hoos have second best scoring defense in the country (the best in the ACC). Even though the Hoos have an aggressive defense, they only have the 16th fewest fouls in the country (which tells you that this is a smart, well-coached team).

Louisville – Their defense, second in the ACC (giving up an average of 55.5 points per game), and their coach, Rick Pitino, is going to keep them in every contest. Does the offense have to improve? Yes – yes, it does – ranked 45th in country.

North Carolina – If the Tar Heels put it together, they have a chance to crack the top four in the ACC. Let’s talk some positives here: The Tar Heels have the fifth ranked three-point field goal defense in the country. The Tar Heels have are ranked third in the country for the total number of rebounds per game and are ranked 16th nationally in scoring offense. A team that’s struggling needs to get the ball inside the post – and if North Carolina makes an effort to do that, they will get better (North Carolina shares the ball well in that they are seventh in the country in number of assists per game – so this bodes well for improvement throughout the year). The Tar Heels have a high ceiling with that talent. They have to find another consistent perimeter scorer outside of Marcus Paige. That’s a must.

North Carolina State – Quietly, the Wolfpack are 2-0 in ACC play. That’s the quietest 2-0 team in the conference. The Wolfies like to block shots – ranked seventh in the country in total blocks. Mark Gottfried has proven that he’s a good coach, but a measuring stick for us will be what the Wolfies do vs. other teams in the 919.

Miami – As my friend @TalkinACCSports said, the Hurricanes’ guard play will keep them in every game (and I’d also add the coaching of Jim Larranaga)… just ask Virginia.

Pittsburgh – If you’re looking for a team that could unexpectedly drop to the cellar in the ACC, look at the Panthers – I know I am being hard here, but they are at the midrange national for several of the offensive and defensive statistical categories – and could lose a game or two (or three) that you think they shouldn’t. They don’t have a single top 100 win this year.

Syracuse – The Orange recently had a very disappointing performance in Blacksburg, VA. In fact, I’d argue that Syracuse would have lost this game if the Hokies center, Joey Van Zegeren, was playing. This is not the vintage Syracuse defense we are used to seeing.

Georgia Tech – In Georgia Tech’s double overtime game vs. Notre Dame, I saw a team that will be much better than everyone thought before the season started. The Jackets might well play themselves into the NIT. This team has issues scoring, but they have an underrated frontline that’s actually pretty good.

Florida State – Sans a most likely win vs. Virginia Tech tonight, the Seminoles could very likely could be the ACC’s most disappointing team. At the beginning of the season, I had the Seminoles as a bubble team to get into the NCAA tournament. I think will be lucky to get into the NIT now.

Clemson – One thing we can always say about Brad Brownell’s Clemson teams are that they will play hard every minute on the floor defensively –but, whoa boy, they are challenged on offense.

Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans. Hope the summer is flying by quickly for you. Jeff (@TalkinACCSports) and I (@HokieSmash) have some great material coming up this summer on the site – we hope it will get you through to football season

We are at the end of the year where members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA) vote on the top male and female athletes of the year who show exemplary talent throughout the year (yours truly has a vote this year). Specifically, the ACSMA votes on the 2013-2014 Anthony J. McKevlin and Mary Garber Awards, which go to the most outstanding ACC male and female athletes, respectively. As always, there are some excellent candidates for each of the awards (@DavidTeelatDP has a great post here on the nominees).

Let’s be clear – my awards ballot is going to have a Florida State type of appeal in a big way.

First, let’s talk about the McKevlin award – this was one of the easiest picks I’ve ever made for any award. Jameis Winston, a redshirt sophomore QB (who also plays baseball – and is the Seminoles closer as pitcher) and national champion should be pretty much a unanimous vote. Let’s take a look at his award sheet:

Yeah – and, as I said a national champion – that was a no-brainer.

Second, the Mary Garber was a more difficult choice. While I think Morgan Brian will win the Garber award (and David Teel has great support in his post for her to win this award), I voted for Lacey Waldrop, the outstanding junior pitcher for the Florida State Seminoles. Let’s talk about Ms. Waldrop (how did she get out of the state of Virginia?!?!?!):

USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year…NFCA First Team All-American…ACC Pitcher of the Year…Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week (March 4)… named to the ACC All-Tournament Team as FSU won its 12th conference title and first since 2011…earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors seven times in 2014 to set a new conference record for a single season…led Florida State to its eighth trip to the Women’s College World Series and the first since 2004…her 38 victories were the most in the NCAA and broke an FSU single-season record…tossed three no-hitters in 2014 – vs. North Dakota State (Feb. 15), at Virginia (March 9) and vs. Florida A&M (March 26)…finished with a 1.13 ERA, allowing just 43 earned runs over 266.1 innings, which was the third-lowest ERA in the nation…ranked in the top 25 of the NCAA in strikeouts (287 – 12th) and shutouts (8 – 25th)…allowed more than one earned run in only 10 of her 48 appearances…recorded eight wins over ranked opponents, including road wins over both Alabama and Florida who played in the 2014 WCWS Championship Finals…named to USA Softball Selection Camp.

Lacey Waldrop is the most dominating softball pitcher I’ve seen in the ACC since Angela Tincher played at Virginia Tech. I really think Waldrop can sense that batters fear her – and are intimidated when she is on the field. Batters are scared of her.

Good luck from all of us at All Sports Discussion to the very deserving McKevlin and Garber nominees!!

Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans!!

Many of you might not have heard of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. It is an award that honors institutions maintaining broad-based athletics programs success in many sports (including male and female sports). The Directors’ Cup , founded by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics and USA Today, begin in 1993-1994 for NCAA Division I athletics. In 1995-96, it was expanded to include Division II, III and the NAIA. Each institution is awarded points in a pre-determined number of sports for men and women. The overall champion is the institution that records the highest number of points in their division’s Directors’ Cup standings. For NCAA Division I, there are 20 sports included (ten men’s and ten women’s).

The ACC has had a very good run this year in the Directors’ Cup Standings. The May 29, 2014 rankings showed that Duke was a substantial mover. The Blue Devils moved from tenth in the final winter rankings second with 1024.50 points as a result of winning the national championship in both women’s golf and men’s lacrosse. Duke also finished fifth in both women’s lacrosse and women’s tennis and 17th in men’s tennis.

The ACC has four institutions ranked in the top 10. Duke is second, Notre Dame is fifth, North Carolina is sixth and Virginia is seventh. The ACC also had several institutions make the top 80, including Florida State (at 13th), Maryland (at 25th), NC State (at 32nd), Virginia Tech (at 41st), Syracuse (at 43rd), Boston College (at 54th), Clemson (at 63rd), Wake Forest (at 64th), Miami (at 68th), and Pittsburgh (at 78th). Incoming member Louisville was at 29.

All in all – the ACC has done very well – and member institutions should be proud of the conference’s performance.

The next Division I spring standings will be released on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.

Greetings, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) fans.

Aye – the offseason – you know this is a painful time After all, the first college football game isn’t for another 100 days, eh? Site owner, Jeff Fann (@TalkinACCSports), and I are here to help the time go a little faster. We hope you have enjoyed our ACC podcast (click here to subscribe to it in iTunes) and the blogging on the site.

Site owner, Jeff Fann, blogged about the ACC’s recent decision to have the conference remain at an eight game conference schedule. In 2017, all ACC schools will also be required to schedule a game against a member of the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 or Pac-12 (h/t @DanWolken). BYU will not count as a power conference game (h/t @BCInterruption).

A few thoughts on this decision announced by ACC Commissioner, John Swofford:

Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Florida State all wanted an eight game ACC conference schedule – and Swofford is clearly listening to the football schools. This is a good thing.

The SEC went to an eight game conference schedule – why should the ACC do anything different? The name of the game is to get as many of your teams as possible in the national championship playoff picture – and bowl eligible. Why set up a series of games in the conference where teams have the ability to knock each other off – and out of contention? Of course, the fan in me wants to see ACC schools schedule the best teams – and have the strongest schedule – but you gotta do – what you have to do – schedule for success.

I do not like the decision by the conference on BYU – and Virginia is going to bear the brunt of that decision when the Hoos go to Provo, UT on September 20, 2014 – and lose by 21 or more points. Here’s what Paul Myerberg from USA Today had to say about this decision:

Unlike the ACC, BYU has actually defeated Oregon, Oklahoma, UCLA and an SEC team in the recent past.

— Paul Myerberg (@PaulMyerberg) May 15, 2014

Swofford should have gone one step further – and stated that the ACC’s position is such that it does not play a conference opponent the week before a rivalry game.

Let’s take a long-term look on how this impacts Virginia Tech. Here is this year’s football schedule – and here are the future football schedules for Virginia Tech – and lets take a look specifically at the non-conference opponents and the Notre Dame game for the Hokies (and we’ll start three years earlier than the 2017 requirement from the ACC):

2014-2015 – William and Mary (H), Ohio State (A), East Carolina (H), Western Michigan (H)

2015-2016 – Ohio State (H), Furman (H), Purdue (A), East Carolina (A)

2016-2017 – Liberty (H), Tennessee (H – Bristol), East Carolina (H), Notre Dame

2017-2018 – Delaware (H), East Carolina (A), Old Dominion (H), and David Teel of the Newport News, VA Daily Press reports that a game with West Virginia at Redskins Stadium in Washington, DC is one that could work (h/t @DavidTeelatDP)

2018-2019 – William and Mary (H), Old Dominion (A), East Carolina (H), and we need an opponent from the Big 12, Big 10, SEC, or Pac-12 – could we try to move the 2015 game with Purdue in this slot?

2019-2020 – Charlotte (H), Old Dominion (H), Wisconsin (A), East Carolina (A)

2020-2021 – Liberty (H), Wisconsin (H), Michigan (A), East Carolina (H)

2021-2022 – Richmond (H), West Virginia (A), Michigan (H)

2022-2023 – Penn State (H), West Virginia (H), Old Dominion (A)

2023-2024 – Purdue (H), Penn State (A), Old Dominion (H)

As you can see above, Virginia Tech is well-positioned to meet the requirements of playing a power conference opponent over the next decade. In five of the next ten years, Virginia Tech is playing at least two power conference opponents – and some great non-power conference series with Conference USA powers, Old Dominion and East Carolina. Former Athletic Director, Jim Weaver, did a terrific job scheduling future opponents during his final years on the job. And the best part is that these are winnable games for the Hokies.

Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Basketball Fans!!!

Obviously, you’ve heard this by now, but basically the entire state of North Carolina ACC teams lost their basketball games this past weekend – and we’re talking Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Wake Forest. As such, Tobacco Road dropped in our poll. We have some very blunt comments, here, too – so we apologize in advance.

Without further ado, here we go:

Syracuse – We’ve said this before, but the Orangemen are the best team in the ACC and it’s not close… my only question is when will we be talking about the region where Syracuse will get that one seed.

Pittsburgh – Is Jamie Dixon an early coach of the year candidate in ACC? Yes, it’s 100% way early – but if the season ended today, his name would be in play. Can they survive ACC play without Durand Johnson

Duke – The Devils finally started getting some production out of their guards (we are fans of Parker and Hood). Duke bounced back quite well vs. the Hoos on Monday (when the Dukies get embarrassed, they generally come back)

Virginia – The Hoos are playing like the team everyone thought they would at the beginning of the year. The Cavaliers ran a clinic on the Wolfies – winning by 31. Lots of teams will lose at Duke – we don’t consider this an unacceptable loss… Virginia showed guts on the road at Cameron.

Florida State – Leonard Hamilton is a two-time ACC coach of the year award winner – and you can see why. Had the best week of any team – nice road win at Clemson – and demolishing the Terps at home.

North Carolina – Tar Heels basically scored a history low in the shot clock era vs. Syracuse. That’s what an active 2-3 zone will do to you.

Clemson – Meet the new grinders of the ACC. Tigers are always going to play tough defense. If the offense improves over these next few weeks, you could see the Tigers being a trendy team to name be watching on Selection Sunday (not saying they make it at all, but if they continue playing the way they are now, then you will be watching for their name).

Notre Dame – I was bullish on Notre Dame – and I was wrong – they are going to miss Jerian Grant (in a big way).

Maryland – The Terps better start defending the three-point shot or they are going to drop even further in this poll.

Miami – Meet the team that’s improved every week of the season – that’s what good coaching from Jim Larranaga can do for you.

North Carolina State – Losing by 31 at home? Really, Wolfies?!?!?! SMH!!!

Georgia Tech – The Jackets are severely underrated – and could find themselves in the top 10 of this poll if they continue on last week’s success with the W over the Irish.

Wake Forest – Jeff Bzdelik is 1-26 in ACC road games (and 2-49 in road games dating back to his tenure at Colorado). Let’s say that again – that’s one win and 26 losses in ACC road games (!!!!!!!).

Boston College – The Eagles won the cellar dweller battle in Blacksburg this past Saturday. That’s the only reason they vacated our site poll cellar spot.

Virginia Tech – The Hokies only have a few chances for ACC wins – and blew one vs. Boston College this past Saturday. Take a look at the schedule here. There aren’t many opportunities for ACC wins for the Hokies. Maybe Miami or Wake Forest? Maybe Maryland if lucky at home? Miami has improved every game, though (the Virginia Tech has not). Do the Hokies have have the juice to win vs. Wake Forest? Thinking Virginia Tech will max out at three ACC wins – would be surprised if it was higher than that number – would not be surprised if it was lower.

In all straight up I went 4 and 2 (13-4 overall), while doing very badly against the spread at 2 and 4 (8-8 overall). This week has six games in the conference, but I will only pick five, as I do not do the North Carolina game.

Virginia Tech (6-2 & 3-1 ACC) at Boston College (3-4 & 1-3 ACC)
12:00 p.m. EST (ABC/ESPN2)
Virginia Tech favored by 4.5

Boston College has overachieved this season under their new head coach. But after losing last week to UNC on the road they are going to face a Virginia Tech team that last season had to go to overtime to get a win. Va Tech lost it’s Top 25 ranking with when Duke upset them, they can ill afford another loss if they want to go to a decent bowl game in December. While the Eagles will get their shots in this one, especially under the power of their running back, Andre Williams, they will not win the overall war. Result: Virginia Tech will score enough to beat the spread in this one, with the final being 31 to 24.

Wake Forest (4-4 & 2-3 ACC) at Syracuse (3-4 & 1-2 ACC)
12:30 p.m. EST (ESPN3/GamePlan)
Syracuse favored by 3.5

In what could be the only game where SU will be favored in conference games this is still not a gimme for the home team. With both teams still looking for a way to make a bowl game, this game is as important as any either programs will play in 2013, as the loser might just have lost its chances to play in the post season. This one is going to come down to one thing, if Wake can get the lead and SU has to play catch up, then the Orange will have to throw the ball, something they are not doing well, and the Deamon Deacons will be able to take advantage of that. Result: In what will probably the closest game of the week take Wake Forest to win by one point, 24 to 23, and of course cover.

#8 Clemson (7-1 & 5-1 ACC) at Virginia (2-6 & 0-4 ACC)
3:30 p.m. EST (ESPN/WatchESPN)
Clemson favored by 17

Welcome to what should be a glorified practice for the Tigers. I think that biggest motivations for Clemson is that playing a 2 win program, without a conference win, they are not the biggest spread in the match ups concerning the Atlantic Coast Conference. Result: Clemson is going to win big, but not as big as they could, since they will pull their starters late in the game, with the final being 42 to 10.

Pittsburgh (4-3 & 2-2 ACC) at Georgia Tech (5-3 & 4-2 ACC)
7:00 p.m. EST ESPNU (WatchESPN)
Georgia Tech favored by 10

To think about this game we just need to look back to a week ago, when Pitt lost to an option offense. Now, seven days later the Panthers will find another team that does the same thing, just with better players. GA Tech is close to 400 rushing yards in their last two wins, while Pitt’s D needs to find a way to stop that. On the flip side GT will have to be leery of the opponent’s aerial attack as they are among the worst in the conference. Result: Georgia Tech will use their running game to beat Pittsburgh, but they will not cover, as the game will end 31 to 27.

#7 Miami (7-0 & 3-0 ACC) at #3 Florida State (7-0 & 5-0 ACC)
8:00 p.m. EST (ABC)
Florida State favored by 22

It has to be a rarity when you find a spread this wide between two Top 10 teams (the only exception being if Alabama is one of the squads), but what is going to be more of a one of a kind deal is that FSU needs to not only win this game and but to also beat the spread if they want to get the second spot back in the BCS. The `Canes have not lost in 2013, but they have come close twice this season, and have a lot more question marks than the `Noles do. I see this as a huge offensive game, with FSU’s gunslinger being able to use all the talent around him to get the job done, while on the other side Miami’s offense will not be able to produce as much. Result: I would not take the under in this game, as Florida State takes this one 45 to 21, covering the spread.

Another week has passed in the Atlantic Coast Conference and it is once again time to check on which programs are looking good to get to a bowl game and which ones are slipping away from that goal in what I am call… “ACC’s Balling to the Bowls”.

First off let’s say that as of now the conference has five bowl eligible squads, three of them ranked, which means they are a lock for a post season game, with Duke (6-2), who should be in, but with one more win will secure themselves their second bowl birth in as many years. The Blue Devils have the week off, with their remaining schedule composed by NC State and Miami at home before ending with Wake and UNC on the road. Can Duke find a win in that quartet of games? Probably, but it would also not surprise me if they did not.

Once again this week will feature a match up of two undefeated squads in the Top 10, with the battle of the sunshine state, as #3 Florida State take on #7 Miami (Fl), both with seven wins in 2013. The one taking this one might just be the front runner to getting the BCS birth for the ACC. This will be once again the featured night game on ABC, and hopefully it is not the lopsided mess that FSU/Clemson was a few weeks back.

Clemson, who is ranked at number 8, is at 7 and 1 on the year, while slipping from the ranked squads is Virginia Tech, who was upset by Duke this past weekend, with a 6 and 2 record.

For the last four programs mentioned, if they were to lose the rest of the season they would still be heading to the post season. For Duke that too could be true, while for the rest of the conference there is work to do, beginning with…

Georgia Tech (5-3) is the next squad on the verge of at least a .500 season. With Pitt at home, followed by #8 Clemson on the road, then Alabama A&M at home and Georgia on the road the path to two games is visible, but definitely one win is achievable.

A team that also has 5 wins (along with 3 losses) and probably has an easier path to seven wins is Maryland. The Terps have Syracuse at home, VA Tech on the road, Boston College at home and NC State away. Both SU and BC should be wins for Maryland and that should set them to a seven wins for the season.

And now we get to the four win level, first with Pittsburgh (4-3) who has five games left, two against ranked teams in #25 Notre Dame and #7 Miami, along with Ga Tech on the road, North Carolina at home and Syracuse on the road as well. Doubtful that the Panthers will grab a win against the ranked squads, so they need to get two wins out of the remaining three, which can be done, but is not assured.

The other four win squad is Wake Forest, 4 and 4, and their road to six wins is also not an easy one. Syracuse on the road, followed by #3 FSU at home, then Duke at home and closing out the year with a road trip to Vanderbilt. While SU can be considered a win, FSU is definitely a loss, Duke might be coming into that game looking for its seventh win, and will not be a push over, and Vandy has played two Top 25 teams in S. Carolina and Georgia and kept both games respectable.

All the other teams are below .500 and are on the outside looking in right now. One game that will definitely be key for two teams in the conference is the rivalry battle in Tobacco Road as North Carolina (2-5) and N.C. State (3-4) battle it out. For the Heels this is a must win if they hope to find six wins on the season and for the Wolfpack this could easily be one of three games they have to win in order to achieve a .500 record.

The Heels probably shattered the hopes of Boston College to have a six win season last weekend, defeating them 34-10. Can they do the same this week? Only time will tell. Make sure you come back this Saturday morning to check out my predictions on the games for week ten in the ACC.

Plenty of games left in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and with each week you will see if any team gets closer to a bowl birth or if the slip farther and farther away from playing in December/January. And each and every week you can check out who those teams might be in the “ACC’s Balling for the Bowls” post right here on AllSportsDiscussion!

Before we get going with Week 9 picks in the conference, let’s chack out the game from last week in the ACC and how I did. In all straight out I went 4 and 1 (9-2 overall), and 3 and 1 against the spread (6-4 overall). This week has seven games in the conference, and once again the only team in action that is not playing against a conference opponent is Pittsburgh, who takes on Navy tomorrow.

Wake Forest (4-3 & 2-2 ACC) at #7 Miami (6-0 & 2-0 ACC)
12:00 p.m. EST (ESPNU/WatchESPN)
Miami favored by 23

After the lackluster game in Chapel Hill and the sunshine state showdown with #2 Florida State coming up next week is this game that Miami loses against an improving Wake Forest? The Deamon Deacons upset Maryland last week and have allowed less 13 points or less in three of the last four games they have played. However, after the bad showing against UNC I doubt that the coaching staff will have the `Canes not ready to play, especially when they are at home. Result: I see Miami winning, but definitely not covering, as they take the game 31 to 21.

Georgia Tech (4-3 & 3-2 ACC) at Virginia (2-5 & 0-3 ACC)
12:30 p.m. EST (ESPN3)
Georgia Tech favored by 10

Virginia is coming into this one with a four loss slide, while GA Tech stopped their skid last week when when they destroyed SU. UVa has not been scoring during ACC games and against GA Tech, who is looking to lock down a bowl bid, this is going to be a problem. Result: I see this as a game that slips away from UVa, with Georgia Tech winning 35 to 24, covering the spread as well.

Pittsburgh (4-2) at Navy (3-3)
1:00 p.m. EST (CBS Sports Network)
Pittsburgh favored by 5.5

In a game that the Panthers need, but will have to take from a team that plays the option on just one week of preparation, this should not be easy for Pitt. Navy has already played against a conference squad this season, losing to Duke 35 to 7. Pitt will have to use their stingy D to stifle the Midshipmen, if they do not this could be a loss they do not need. Result: Like last week, Pittsburgh will struggle to put away its opponent, but in the end they will win, this one 31 to 24, also covering the spread in the end.

N.C. State (3-3 & 0-3 ACC) at #2 Florida State (6-0 & 4-0 ACC)
3:30 p.m. EST (ABC)
Floridat State favored by 31.5

The only way that this is a scare for the Noles if they are concentrating more on next week’s match up with Miami than the opponent they have in front of them. On the other hand, being the team behind Alabama, which means they have to keep thinking about not only winning but also showing the BCS that they can win big. Also, this FSU team needs to revenge the lost they suffered on the road to the Wolfpack a year ago. So, some could see a trap game, I do not. Result: This gets ugly until Florida State decides to let off the pedal in the end, winning convincingly 42 to 17, but not enough to cover the spread.

#9 Clemson (6-1 & 4-1 ACC) at Maryland (5-2 & 1-2 ACC)
3:30 p.m. EST (ESPN/WatchESPN)
Clemson favored by -14

Clemson has its six games to be bowl eligible. Maryland needs one more for that. The Terps were upset last week. The Tigers were also defeated last week. If this game had been played a month ago, I would say that this could be a game that MD would win, but with all the injuries that the program has had, the game is not going to go well for them this time as Tajh Boyd rebounds from one of his worst games ever as a collegiate player. Result: Clemson lays down the law and the points in this one, defating Maryland by 21, with the final score bing 41 to 20.

Duke (5-2 & 1-2 ACC) at #14 Virginia Tech (6-1 & 3-0 ACC)
3:30 p.m EST (ESPNU/WatchESPN)
Virginia Tech favored by 13.5

Once again a game between a team having the bowl option locked up and one needing to improve in order to be playing in the post season. The Blue Devils are on a three game winning streak, on the other hand, none of their opponents are anywhere close to what they will face today against Va Tech. Duke will attack by the air, but they will face one of the best D’s in the nation. Result: Look for Virginia Tech to make a statement in this one, taking the game by 21, final score being 31 to 10, also covering the spread in this one.

Side Note: As you will notice the game between North Carolina and Boston College is not in this post as I do not pick the games that involve the Tar Heels. However, I usually do a preview and recap of the Carolina games on another site.
