Dec. 26 Independence Shreveport, La. 5:45 p.m. (ESPN) Tulsa (6-6) vs. Virginia Tech (6-6) The Hokies come in winners of 3 of their last 4 games. They have really played inspired if not high quality football since Frank Beamer announced his retirement. Tulsa frankly isn’t very good, and they give up tons of points. Frank Beamer should go …

During the course of the SEC’s 2015 football season something occurred that I had seen before. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but as the year progressed I knew what I was watching. It was the decline of a dominant conference in a particular sport propped up by 1 maybe 2 great teams. …

Clemson football was in a near 20 year funk, when Dabo Swinney took over as Tiger head coach in 2008. Underachievement was the epitome of Clemson football. It was gradual process, but 7 years later Swinney has the Tigers going into the College Football Playoffs as the number 1 seed. Bowls wins over programs like …

Virginia Tech just hired Justin Fuente. He rebuilt Memphis football and won 19 games the last two years. He was one of the hottest names in college football, and Virginia Tech landed him. It was a really good hire for the Hokies it appears. Miami just landed Mark Richt. He only won 145 games in …

It looks like Miami has their coach, and it is former Georgia coach Mark Richt. This is a hire I really like for Miami. For the first time in years, you get the feeling the Hurricanes are ready to make a real commitment to becoming a football power again. Richt is well respected, and 145 …

11 days ago I wrote a scenario where the North Carolina Tar Heels would make the playoffs. The loss to South Carolina holds UNC down like an anchor. I can’t disagree with it either. The Heels did lose to a team that finished the season 3-9, but if Michigan State can lose to a 5-7 …

With one more week to go, the playoff spots are still up for grabs, but at least one team locked up a sport. Who’s in and who’s out? Let me point out on my philosophy on these rankings – you’re most recent OOC results count a lot, and you’ll see me reference that throughout the …

Georgia Tech had such high hopes for 2015. They were coming off a top 10 season and ranked in the pre-season top 20. The expectations were through the roof in Atlanta, and then the injuries started. Each week a different player was going out. There were players that quit the team. 3rd stringers, former walkons, …
