It’s time to stop messing around with Virginia around that 4/5 seed line. The Hoos have been hovering around there for weeks, seemingly unable to get to that coveted 2/3 line. If Duke, Michigan, Arizona and Florida are elite 1 seeds, and I’ll throw UConn as elite as well but a notch below them, then who’s after them?
Why can’t it be 29-4 Virginia? That same Virginia team that is sterling 17-4 against the Q1/Q2 with 9 Q1 wins against just 3 losses. Two of those losses were to Duke and a UNC team before Caleb Wilson got hurt.
They have the best record of any P5 team outside the five teams I mentioned above. A couple of teams projected ahead of Virginia – Illinois is 12-8 against the Q1/Q2, Alabama has lost 9 games, and worse NET. Nebraska has lost more games since February 1st than Virginia has lost all season. None will reach their conference tournament finals like Virginia did.
Do I have to go on?
Ok, I will. Virginia hasn’t lost to an unranked team since 2025, and they’ve gone 17-2 in 2026.
For all the debates surrounding the bubble, let’s not underseed teams from where they belong, and if there are 11 better teams in the country than Virginia, I’d like to see them.
That’s a team should be ranked somewhere from 6-11. Oh yea that’s where the AP and Coaches Poll have them. It’s just not those bracket projections that don’t, and they’re wrong.
