Miami’s Mark Richt coaches to lose to Virginia

With the ACC Coastal for the taking, Miami should have basically cruised though their schedule until a November date with Virginia Tech – at least if you believe pre-season rankings. Coming of a 10 win season that saw the Canes reach the top 5 at one point, 2018 was looked to be another step in …

They grew when some Princeton and Rutgers students challenged each other to the first college football game played, in 1869. For some …

Alex Spanos dies with a muddled NFL legacy

Alex Spanos died Tuesday at age 95 and reports across the nation identified him as owner of the Los Angeles Chargers. What a complicated yet fittingly sterile final chapter to his legacy as a National Football League owner of franchise storied for its San Diego years. Upon hearing the news my first memory, as a …

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly no longer has to explain away speculation he settled for Ian Book as a Plan B recruit. What to make of Virginia Tech after getting routed by Notre Dame.

Everything we’ve seen from Virginia Tech during the early part of the season was on display against Notre Dame. At times Virginia Tech looked sloppy, undisciplined, and athletically inferior to Notre Dame. At other times Virginia Tech looked aggressive on offense, stifling on defense, and in general had the feel of a top 25 team. …

Miami’s incredible comeback against Florida State adds to Nole’s misery.

I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t watched it. Miami was down 27-7 to Florida State in the 3rd quarter. The Noles had played by far their best 40 minutes of the season. The offensive line was actually blocking. FSU’s defense was making plays and stifling the Miami offense. I thought Miami was dead. …
