Articles from around the ACC Blogosphere January 12, 2015

Need a little pre-National Championship game reading, or something for the Halftime? By the way I’d like to Oregon win. I think it’s good for college football to see some non-historical powers football win a title. I think you have to go back 1991 when Washington split a title with Miami to find one. The …

ACC Bubble Analysis for January 11, 2015

We’ve got some shakeup in this week’s bubble analysis, find out who moved up and who moved down. In my ranking system, any RPI top (100) win is a good win and any RPI top (50) obviously worth more. Any losses outside the RPI top (100) is considered a bad loss, and outside the RPI …

Where does the ACC fall behind the Pac12 and SEC in football?

There’s no question the ACC has improved as a football conference in recent years, but it is still not at the level of the Pac 12 or the SEC. The ACC did go 5-3 against the SEC, but most of that work was done by the best teams in conference. That still counts and it …

The ACC Bowl season was rough, but the conference did have some big football positives in 2014.

When you go 4-7 during bowl season like the ACC did, it’s hard to find positives. Same ole ACC from the critics who were ready to pounce. I’m not here say 4-7 was good. It certainly wasn’t. Performances by UNC, Miami, and the 4th quarter meltdown by Pittsburgh were especially ugly. Let’s not forget Boston …

ACC Basketball Power Rankings – January 8, 2015

Welcome back to the ACC Basketball Power Rankings. If you missed them yesterday (you didn’t), I held off a day realizing that Thursday and Friday are typically the off days in this year’s ACC schedules. Maybe I could have done a little research before starting this weekly practice and done it on Thursday all along, …

Pittsburgh’s epic bowl meltdown, proves Pat Narduzzi needs to change the entire culture of Panther football.

If I hadn’t watched the 4th quarter, I wouldn’t have believed it. Pittsburgh blew a 31-6 fourth quarter lead. A collapse so spectacular it left most of us in disbelief. Here is what is scary though, Pitt fans weren’t shocked. In fact, it seemed as if they almost expected it. That’s why I love twitter, …

Florida State’s astonishing 29 game winning streak finally came to an end against an outstanding Oregon team Thursday at the Rose Bowl. Georgia Tech finishes off magical season with resounding Orange Bowl win.

Georgia Tech saw an opportunity Wednesday night in the Orange Bowl, and they took full advantage of it. On the verge of the Jacket’s greatest season since the 1990 National Championship team, Georgia Tech had to go through a Mississippi St. team that spent a good portion of the year at #1. Not only did …

ACC Basketball Power Rankings – December 31, 2014

It’s almost time to celebrate a new year. A fresh start, a chance to carry out those resolutions, and 365 more opportunities for #goacc greatness. There wasn’t much #goacc in basketball circles this week, however, as most teams rounded out their non-conference slate to end 2014. 1 – Duke: Holy Toledo! The Blue Devils easily …

Louisville loses to UGA in the Belk bowl, but they are not far from being a top-end program.

Louisville has been a welcome addition to the ACC. They added quality depth to ACC football. This year they went 9-4, that included a road win at 8-5 Notre Dame. They beat Kentucky helping the ACC to a 4-0 rivalry day record against the SEC. The season ended on a down note though after a …

After crushing Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl, time to call Clemson a legitimate football power.

Clemson put on a performance in the Russell Athletic Bowl that I didn’t think they were capable of. Winning wasn’t out of the question, winning 40-6 seemed like a virtual impossibility. Don’t tell that to the Clemson football team and coaching staff. Clemson had a complete performance. It was total domination. Oklahoma came into the …
