With 2nd to Last College Playoff rankings out, who can still get into the playoffs?

The 2nd to last college playoff rankings are out, and I think it’s clear where the committee stands on which teams can get in and which can’t. #1 Clemson vs #7 Miami – ACC Championship  The winner of the ACC Championship is in… period. Miami is out with a loss. Clemson is probably out with a …

Ranking the Power 5 Football Conferences after Week 13 with Playoff Analysis

While the playoff committee doesn’t rank the power 5 conference, there is no way conference strength – which means OOC results doesn’t figure in to a committee members thought process. Let me point out on my philosophy on these rankings – your most recent  OOC results count a lot, and you’ll see me reference that …

Clemson in Championship form as Tigers pummel South Carolina… again.

We kind of slept Clemson the last few weeks haven’t we? There was a startling loss to Syracuse, and uneven games in wins against NC State and Florida State. Several players on Clemson’s defense were dealing with injuries, and that can catch up with you too. Just ask Alabama… Yet Clemson with the lone loss …

Best Tweets from the Louisville and Florida State wins over their in-state rivals.

I didn’t get to watch much of the Louisville and Florida State games today, and as a rule I won’t comment much on a game I didn’t watch. That said Louisville and Florida State blowing out their rivals Kentucky and Florida deserves some blog time. Who better to comment on the games than their fans, …

Add another one, Virginia Tech has owned Virginia football since 2003.

Virginia Tech has now won 14 straight games against Virginia. The streak has reached an absurd level. We’re talking the ACC’s version of Kentucky and Florida. No matter how the Hoos are playing, no matter who lines up or where they play – Virginia Tech is going to beat Virginia at football. The won again …

Wake Forest is in the midst of a potentially remarkable season after win over NC State.

I’m guessing a lot of people around the country aren’t aware of the potentially remarkable season going at Wake Forest. The Deacs are often overlooked, but they shouldn’t be. Those of us that follow the ACC know what’s going in Winston Salem and it’s stunning in the best kind of way if you are a …

Virginia Tech’s goal-line stand against Pittsburgh was one of college football’s best this season.

I didn’t watch all of this game, but I tuned in to see one of the great goal-line stands this season in college football. If there was a better one this year, I haven’t seen it. 4-6 Pittburgh was looking to get a win that could have save it’s season. With 30 seconds left, they …

After ugly loss to Duke, It’s time for Georgia Tech to let Defensive Coordinator Ted Roof go.

After Georgia Tech likely cost itself a bowl game with a very ugly 43-20 loss at Duke, one thing has become abundantly clear. Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech have to cut ties with defensive coordinator Ted Roof. Roof is a former Yellow Jacket player from the 80s, and a decent recruiter. It’s not an overly …

Where does Miami’s win over Notre Dame rank in the ACC’s best OOC wins of the decade so far?

One of my favorite series of articles that I wrote this year is the ACC’s best 25 OOC wins since the start of this decade.   It’s the decade where ACC football became one of the premier football conferences in the country. This past weekend Miami knocked off #3 ranked Notre Dame. It was an outstanding OOC …

Notre Dame’s lack of full ACC conference affiliation has finished off their playoff hopes in 2017.

The ACC doesn’t need Notre Dame to join as full football member any longer. The conference doesn’t needed Notre Dame football to start a network, or to build the conference’s SOS. The ACC is firmly established as one of the premier football conferences in the country. They 5 game Notre Dame\ACC schedule works out well …
