Is Paul Johnson capable of fixing what’s broke with Georgia Tech football?

I’ve long been a Paul Johnson fan. I really like him, and the unique identity he brings to Georgia Tech with his option offense. As recently as two years ago he beat Georgia and had a 9 win season. There is a top 10 year, Orange Bowl appearances, ACC Titles and ACC Championship game appearances …

After ugly loss to Syracuse, FSU’s Willie Taggart looks in over his head.

Florida State was a bad football team last year. They went 7-6 by the skin of their teeth. Jimbo Fisher left a total mess for new head coach Willie Taggart, but come on after a 30-7 loss at Syracuse, the Noles should not be this bad. They were whooped at home by Virginia Tech to …

Ranking the Power 5 Football Conferences after Week 2

While the playoff committee doesn’t rank the power 5 conference, there is no way conference strength – which means OOC results doesn’t figure in to a committee members thought process. Let me point out on my philosophy on these rankings – your most recent  OOC results count a lot, and you’ll see me reference that …

Clemson survives Texas A&M, but secondary has issues.

Clemson survived a 28-26 heart stopper at Texas A&M. In front of over 100,000, Clemson doesn’t need to worry about style points, but the Aggies exposed a considerable hole in the Tigers defense… the secondary, or better yet the back seven. Kellen Mond was outstanding as the Aggie QB, throwing for over 400 yards. I …

Duke opens some eyes with win at Northwestern

An under the radar game was a significant one at Northwestern. With Miami getting rolled by LSU, and Virginia Tech dominanting at FSU we wondered if there was another Coastal Division team that could play a factor in the Division race. UNC and Virginia don’t have enough talent to be in the picture over the …

Georgia Tech blows another 4th quarter lead and not a single Jacket fan is surprised.

I’m going to put my Georgia Tech fan hat on right now. When Georgia Tech took a 38-28 4th quarter lead against South Florida, there wasn’t a single Georgia Tech fan that felt the lead was safe. They had seen this scenario play out time and time again… Tennessee, Miami, etc This ending is merely …

Bud Foster calls great game against FSU; Hokies are now team to beat in Coastal.

Just a few quick post-game thoughts. Bud Foster again proves why he’s one of the best defensive coordinators in college football. Taking an undermanned and largely inexperienced unit, he had the FSU offensive line totally confused. He rotated players, called timely blitzes and had FSU off-balance all night. It reminded me of his master-piece game …

Miami does little right and gets embarrassed by LSU

Did Miami do anything right on Sunday night because I’m drawing a blank here. I guess not quitting to make the score closer than it really was counts for someting, but in reality from Mark Richt down to the water boy, it was a completely embarrassing performance by the Hurricanes. LSU is a decent team, …

Finding any positives in Louisville’s blowout loss to Alabama.

When you lose 51 – 14 it’s not easy to find a lot of positives. That’s what happened to Louisville as they got flat hammered by Alabama, but we’re going to give it a shot. First getting blown out by Alabama doesn’t end a season. Frankly they do it to most everyone they play. USC …

Clemson win over Furman provides little clarity who should start at QB.

The biggest question going on at Clemson, SC right is who should start at QB – incumbent Kelly Bryant or freshman sensation Trevor Lawrence. If you thought the opening game against Furman might shed some light on this question – it didn’t at least not to me. There were a couple of certainties though. Trevor …

What if Louisville beats Alabama?

Ok… Let me be the first to say, I don’t see Louisville beating Alabama. If it’s competitive through the first two quarters, then I think the Cardinals would have accomplished their goal. If the final spread is under 24 points, then Louisville should be proud. I’m seeing a 42-10, 45-17 type win for Alabama. That …

Around the #ACC Blogosphere For August 30, 2018

Do did you see from ACCPrescription that Big 10 has dropped the permanent crossover game? They get into how the ACC should do this.   It’s only something we suggested the ACC  do 3 years ago.   Don’t worry FSU and Miami, you can find a way to play that game each year. That’s the only ACC crossover that …
