ACC Power Rankings after Week 1

ACC Team of the Week : North Carolina State – for shutting out South Florida 45-0

14. Georgia Tech (0-1)

Last Week : NA

One game into his third year at Georgia Tech and Geoff Collins are at the bottom of the ACC. After the debacle of a loss to a NIU team that hadn’t won in 2 years, the Yellow Jackets are in big big trouble.

13. Duke (0-1)

Last Week: NA

Duke doesn’t look poorly coached as opposed to to Georgia Tech, but there isn’t a lick of talent on that team outside of Mateo Durant and a couple of others. Starting the year with a loss to UNC-Charlotte is a bad sign.

12. Louisville (0-1)

Last Week: NA

Louisville looked dreadful against Ole Miss. They were physically overmatched from the get go. That is not the start Scott Satterfield needed.

11. Syracuse (1-0)

Last week: NA

Syracuse took care of a decent Ohio team easily. That was a bit of surprise. Should Syracuse take care of Rutgers, they could start the year 3-0.

10. Wake Forest (1-0)

Last Week: NA

We seem to always underestimate Wake Forest, but they should be 2-0 after this weekend’s game with Norfolk State.

9. Pitt (1-0)

Last week: NA

Pittsburgh has a chance to prove where they really are with a game Tennessee this week.

8. Miami (0-1)

Last Week: NA

Miami did not look good against Alabama, but then again who does? Appalachian State is a dangerous opponent. The Canes need to be ready.

7. Virginia  (1-0)

Last Week: NA

Virginia can make a jump in these rankings if they take care of Illinois. Hey if you’re in the ACC and beat a Power 5 team any Power 5 team at the moment it’s worth something.

6. North Carolina (0-1)

Last Week: NA

North Carolina was stunningly flat against Virginia Tech. Georgia State is next.

5. Florida State (0-1)

Last Week: NA

In a 41-38 OT loss to Notre Dame, Florida State showed true glimpses of a pretty good football team. DE Jermaine Johnson looks like one of the early transfers of the year. Jacksonville State shouldn’t be an issue.

4. Boston College (1-0)

Last Week: NA

Boston College easily dispatched of Colgate. UMass provides another warm-up game.

3. Virginia Tech (1-0)

Last Week: NA

The Hokies defense played extremely well against North Carolina. Now Virginia Tech must validate it with a win over Middle Tennessee.

2. NC State (1-0)

Last Week: NA

NC State looked dominant against USF. If NC State is one of the ACC’s 4 best teams, they’ll come out of Starkville and Mississippi State with a win.

1. Clemson (0-1)

Last Week: NA

The defense is one of the country’s 3 best, and held UGA to 3 offensive points. The problem is the offensive line is mediocre, and QB DJ Uiagalelei got really rattled against UGA and didn’t play well. Clemson has to run the table now to make the playoffs.
