ACC Media Deal to End in 2031 instead of 2036?

If a random X account says something about ACC realignment, the ACC Media Deals, or the lawsuits I ignore it. It’s just easier that way because the vast majority of it is just noise. Now if a direct quote comes out from a reliable source, then that catches my attention. Ross Dellenger of Yahoo.com has developed good reputation on these kinds of topics.

Recently he alluded to the ACC deal coming to an in 2031. Take a listen starting about the 20 minute mark.

This doesn’t mean it’s coming for sure, but it opens the possibility. Why would the ACC/ESPN and its members even consider this?

The first reason is if one of the conditions is that Clemson and FSU drop their lawsuits, and it already came up in September of 2024 as Dellenger reported.

The lawsuits aren’t good for anyone involved. The conference looks disjointed, and I’m sure ESPN would rather be working with stability. Clemson and FSU are spending millions in legal fees, but drop 5 years off the deal, and for them, you may be able to wait it out and save millions.

The second reason hasn’t the ACC been criticized for a media that’s too long? 4-5 years from now is an eternity, who knows what the landscape will look like? What if the ACC could attempt a renegotiation sooner? Should they not do that? What’s the point of trying to hold schools hostage for 10 more years?

If I’m the ACC I take my chances and see if a renegotation is possible.

Could this really happen? I think we’ll know the answer to this in a few weeks or less.
