18. Miami   (4-8, 0-1) NET – 162 RPI – 268

Last Week: 18

Miami’s Jim Larranaga retired this week. This Miami program is in the worst shape it’s been in years.

17. Virginia Tech (5-7, 0-1) NET – 208, RPI – 227

Last Week: 16

Virginia Tech lost by 20 this week to St. Joseph. This is one bad team that has to play at Duke this week. This could get real ugly. They host Miami on January 4.

16. Georgia Tech (6-7, 0-2) NET – 158, RPI – 265

Last Week: 17

Georgia Tech gets Notre Dame and Boston College at home this week. Can Georgia Tech get over .500 this week?

15. Syracuse (6-6, 0-1) NET – 141, RPI – 129

Last Week: 15

Syracuse can do major damage to to Wake Forest’s NCAA hopes if they knock them off. They also play at Florida State this week.

14. Notre Dame (7-5, 1-0) NET – 92, RPI – 127

Last Week : 14

Notre Dame’s NET is in top 100 so they aren’t too far back they can’t make a serious NCAA move. That means they need to win at Georgia Tech and steal a win at home from UNC.

13. Boston College (8-5, 0-2) NET – 207, RPI – 170

Last Week: 13

Boston College gets Miami at home then Georgia Tech on the road later in the week. It’s hard to see the teams this far down the list playing for anything more than pride.

12. California  (7-5, 0-1) NET – 129, RPI – 157

Last Week: 12

Cal is probably relegated to the role of spoiler. They can cause some series NCAA damage if they knock off Pitt or Clemson.

11. Florida State (9-4, 0-2) NET – 83, RPI – 69

Last Week: 11

FSU gets Syracuse at home on January 4. They better not lose.

10. Virginia (7-5, 0-1) NET – 101, RPI – 72

Last Week: 10

Virginia can’t let winnable home games get away. That means they better get both NC State and Louisville.

9. NC State (8-4, 1-0) NET – 105, RPI – 175

Last week:  9

NC State is already behind the 8 ball. They need to get at least one of the two road games between Virginia and Wake Forest.

8. Stanford (9-3, 1-0) NET – 84, RPI – 73

Last Week: 8

Big week ahead for Stanford. They don’t need a sweep of Clemson and Pitt, but a split would be nice.

7. Wake Forest (9-4, 1-1) NET – 103, RPI- 74

Last week: 7

This is a critical week for Wake Forest. They really need to sweep Syracuse and NC State.

6. Louisville  (8-5, 1-1) NET – 59, RPI – 30

Last Week: 6

A sweep of UNC and Virginia would put Louisville on the right side of the bubble.

5. UNC  (8-5, 1-0) NET – 32, RPI – 10

Last Week: 5

UNC has a couple of tricky road games this week Louisville and Notre Dame. They can’t afford to get swept.

4. SMU (10-2, 1-0) NET – 30, RPI – 44

Last Week: 4

At 11-2 SMU has a massive home game with Duke on Saturday. Can they get one of the few Q1 wins available in the ACC.

3. Clemson (10-3, 2-0) NET – 36, RPI – 28

Last Week: 3

Clemson should get to 4-0 in ACC with Stanford and Cal and at home.

2. Pittsburgh (10-2, 1-0) NET – 9, RPI – 15

Last Week: 2

Pittsburgh starts their ACC schedule with Cal and Stanford this week. Pitt did good work in November and December, don’t start slipping now.

1. Duke (10-2, 2-0) NET – 3, RPI – 16

Last Week: 1

Duke needs to run through the ACC with something close to a 17-3 or 18-2 ACC record to be in the number 1 NCAA seed discussion. It starts with Virginia Tech and SMU this week.
