The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 15.
Will SMU fall out of the playoff with a loss?
The fact we are even asking this question is insane. This only happens because the precious Alabama Crimson Tide could be left out of the field. By all logic and reason, SMU should have their playoff spot sealed up, but any committee that will leave out an undefeated untied P5 champion like in 2023 doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt to make the right and proper decision. It’s a scenario that remains on the table.
Can Clemson play a 4 quarter-game against a quality opponent?
Clemson was blown out by Georgia. They were blown out by Louisville. They were outplayed severely by South Carolina in the 4th quarter this past weekend. Is Clemson capable of playing a 4 quarter-game against a quality opponent? I honestly don’t know because we haven’t seen it this year. Is it depth? Is it talent? Is it coaching? Is it all the above? Clemson has had so many chances to make a statement this year and came up short each time. Now they get another shot against a very good playoff-caliber SMU team. The law of averages just has to hit in Clemson’s favor eventually right?
Did Miami get screwed by being ranked #12.
Miami lost to Syracuse to fall from #6 to #12 and behind Alabama and out of playoff position. Did Miami get screwed in the process? I think the Canes have a gripe, but it’s hard to get too worked up about things to be perfectly honest. Miami truly controlled its own destiny. If they win 2 of their final 3 games, they are in. If they beat Syracuse they are in. If they had beat Georgia Tech they are in. When you lose games you leave it in the hands of the committee, and you can’t assume unless you’re Alabama you’ll get preferred treated. That includes Miami, Ole Miss, and South Carolina.
