We’ll start adding NET and RPI rankings once there are enough data points.
18. Miami (3-4)
Last Week: 16
Miami lost to a previously winless Charleston Southern team. That’s enough to sink to the bottom of these power rankings. Arkansas and Clemson are this week. Is it time for Jim Larranaga to start thinking about retirement?
17. Virginia Tech (3-4)
Last Week: 17
Virginia Tech is a double-digit losing machine. Their last 4 losses were all by 10 or more. This week is Vanderbilt and Pittsburgh.
16. Georgia Tech (4-3)
Last Week: 18
Georgia Tech played a couple of bad teams this week Charleston Southern and Central Arkansas, but at least they beat them. That’s enough for a small move up. Oh boy, it’s games at Oklahoma and UNC upcoming though.
15. Notre Dame (4-4)
Last Week : 13
Notre Dame has lost 4 games in a row, and this week they were to Top 25 teams Creighton and Houston. That’s better I guess than some others here. Georgia and Syracuse are next.
14. Syracuse (4-2)
Last Week: 15
Syracuse defeated Cornell this week. Games at Tennessee are Notre Dame are this week.
13. Boston College (6-2)
Last Week: 12
Boston College won the Caymon Island Championships with a win over a good Boise State and promptly gave it back losing to Dartmouth. South Carolina and Wake Forest are this week.
12. Stanford (6-2)
Last Week: 5
Come on Stanford, you can’t start 6-0 then lose to Grand Canyon and Cal Poly. They play at Cal on Dec 7.
11. SMU (6-2)
Last Week: 14
Quietly SMU won the Arcisure Holiday Invitational with a win over Washington State. If they beat Alabama State and Virginia this week keep an eye on them.
10. Florida State (7-1)
Last Week: 11
Florida State has won 4 games in a row, but they could use some quality wins. If they win at LSU and NC State those would carry weight.
9. NC State (5-2)
Last week: 8
NC State battled Purdue and BYU, and played decently but lost. NC State could use a win over Texas this week. FSU is also upcoming on the 7th.
8. Virginia (5-2)
Last Week: 8
Virginia went to 2-0 this week against Manhatten and Holy Cross. If they win at Florida and SMU, they’ll move up big.
7. Clemson (7-1)
Last Week: 9
Now we’re getting into the teams, that are in early NCAA Tournament position. Clemson beat good San Francisco and Penn State teams to win the Sunshine Slam. If they could knock off Kentucky this week, that would be a massive OOC win. Miami is on the 7th too.
6. California (6-1)
Last Week: 7
Cal has won 4 in a row, plus the quality win at USC. A game at Missouri and then hosting Stanford are this week.
5. Louisville (5-2)
Last Week: 10
Louisville makes our biggest move after an excellent tournament in the Bahamas. They blew out Indiana and beat West Virginia before losing a tough game with Oklahoma. Ole Miss at home is a good chance at a quality win.
4. Wake Forest (7-2)
Last week: 6
Wake Forest picked up a win against Minnesota that should hold up the rest of the year. They already beat Michigan. They face Texas A&M and Boston College this week.
3. UNC (4-3)
Last Week: 2
UNC is still a NCAA-quality team, and got a good win over Dayton in Hawaii, but looked overwhelmed by Auburn and lost to Michigan State. A win over Alabama could really kick-start their season. Then it’s Georgia Tech at home on the 7th.
2. Duke (5-2)
Last Week: 1
Duke despite their talent has their youth showing late in games against quality opponents. Like Kentucky, Duke played with Kansas but faded in the final 2 minutes again. If they don’t figure it out, they won’t reach their potential. Auburn and a game at Louisville are more chances.
1. Pittsburgh (7-1)
Last Week: 3
Pittsburgh is starting to look like this year’s version of Clemson. They are racking up quality wins in November and December. They got another with a last-second win at Ohio State, and that pushes them to the top spot. They have another tough game at Mississippi State this week.
