November 17, 2024 ACC Basketball Power Rankings

We’ll start adding NET and RPI rankings once there are enough data points.

18. Georgia Tech (2-2)

Last Week: N/A

This wasn’t how Damon Stoudamire’s second season was supposed to start. The Jackets already have two ugly home losses on their resume to North Florida and UGA. They get a really good Cincinnati team on Saturday. A win there could help turn things around.

17. Virginia Tech (2-1)

Last Week: N/A

Virginia Tech was boat raced by 22 against Penn State in their last game. Jacksonville is on the 20th.

16. California  (2-1)

Last Week: N/A

Cal got blown out by Vanderbilt 85-69 this week. USC and Air Force are this week.

15. Boston College (2-1)

Last Week: N/A

Boston College’s lone loss was a 25 point defeat to VCU. They did follow it up with a decent win over Temple. Loyal Maryland and Old Dominion are ahead this week.

14. Florida State (3-1)

Last Week: N/A

FSU’s only game against a quality opponent is 13 point home loss to Florida. Hofstra, Temple and UMass are this week.

13. SMU (3-1)

Last Week: N/A

SMU has a similar resume to to FSU, just one quality (Butler) with a double digit loss. Prairie View is this week, but also Mississippi State which is a chance to open eyes.

12. Louisville  (1-1)

Last Week: N/A

Louisville’s rebuilding project is going to take time. Tennessee trounced them at Louisville. Bellarmine and Winthrop are up ahead.

11. Clemson (3-1)

Last Week: N/A

The loss at Boise State exposed a lot of defensive issues. Radford is this week.

10. Wake Forest (3-1)

Last week: N/A

Wake Forest is the highest ranked of the 1 loss team due to the strength of a win over Michigan, but there’s also a 15 point loss to Xavier. Western Carolina and Detroit are this week.

9. Syracuse (3-0)

Last Week: N/A

Syracuse could easily be 0-3, but avoiding a loss counts for something. Texas likely brings that to an end this week.

8. Stanford (4-0)

Last Week: N/A

Stanford has 4 wins all by blowout. Norfolk State and Santa Clara are this week. There’s a chance to get to 6-0 this week.

7. Miami   (3-0)

Last Week: N/A

The game at Drake could be interesting, as the Canes so far have taken care of business.

6. NC State (3-0)

Last week:  N/A

Colgate and William & Mary this week should NC State to 5-0.

5. Notre Dame (3-0)

Last Week : N/A

Notre Dame has a great chance to get to 5-0 with North Dakota and Elon this week. They do have a Big East win over Georgetown.

4. Virginia (4-0)

Last Week: N/A

Virginia cruised against a Villanova team that’s flawed but has some talent. That’s good enough to fly you up this list. Tennessee will be a massive test.

3. Pittsburgh (4-0)

Last Week: N/A

Pittsburgh has blown out everyone they have played including West Virginia. Maybe they should be ranked #1 on this list all things considered.

2. Duke (3-1)

Last Week: N/A

Duke is clearly very talented and Cooper Flagg is probably the best freshman in the country, but the finish against Kentucky is a big concern. Jon Scheyer did a shaky job of coaching, and the moment was too big for Flagg who made multiple mistakes late. He’ll learn from it. Arizona is another test this week.

1. UNC  (2-1)

Last Week: N/A

UNC’s second half at Kansas was a thing of beauty, but unfortunately, they couldn’t close the deal. No shame in that kind of loss. A game with Hawaii is this week.
