We go from the coldest to the hottest.
0 – Ice Cold
1 – Still cool
2 – There’s smoke
3 – Getting Warm
4 – On Fire
5 – Start working on the resume
Manny Diaz, Duke = 0
Previous = 0
Duke is 7-3 and could very well go 9-3. It’s been a really solid season first for Manny Diaz in Durham.
Rhett Lashlee, SMU = 0
Previous = .1
SMU is in the thick of the ACC Title chase at 8-1. Rhett Lashlee might just be your ACC COY. SMU fans are loving Rhett Lashlee.
Fran Brown, Syracuse = .1
Previous = .1
Fran Brown has Syracuse bowl eligible at 6-3, but they have lost 2 of their last 3 with a strange-looking loss to Stanford earlier in the season. Overall, though it’s been a strong first year for Brown.
Jeff Brohm, Louisville = .1
Previous = .1
The slightest frustration was growing after a disappointing 4-3 start for the Cards. Winning two in a row with a victory Clemson cures a lot of ills. Can he beat Kentucky in the season finale?
Bill O’Brien, Boston College = .5
Previous = 0
Boston College sat 4-1 then lost 3 of their next 4, and QB Thomas Castellanos decided to leave the team. It’s still only O’Brien’s first season, but after teams like Duke and Syracuse made bowls in their coach’s first years, this hotseat number goes up if BC misses.
Brent Key, Georgia Tech = .5
Previous = .75
Georgia Tech sits 6-4 after 10 games. Things could have gotten a little dicey for Key going into next year had Georgia Tech missed a bowl. There’s no chance of that happening after an epic upset of Miami. Everything is else is gravy going forward.
Dabo Swinney, Clemson = .75
Previous = .5
Clemson has lost to the two best teams they’ve played 67-24. A recent ugly home loss to Louisville knocked Clemson off the playoff radar. Swinney given past success is fine, but that doesn’t mean Tiger fans aren’t getting frustrated.
Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh = 1
Previous = .75
Pittsburgh started the season 7-0, but they have lost their last two games with a particularly bad effort against Virginia. The season ends with Clemson, at Louisville and at Boston College. Things could derail quickly for Narduzzi after a 3-9 2023 season.
Brent Pry, Virginia Tech = 1.5
Previous = 1
Brent Pry isn’t on the hotseat yet, but he’s trending toward it without a strong finish. At 5-5, the Hokies still need another win to make a bowl game. They play at a solid Duke squad and then host a dangerous Virginia team. This number will at least double if Pry loses both.
