We last looked at the ACC Hotseat rankings earlier in the fall. Now we have just a few more games to go, who better make a move now?
We go from the coldest to the hottest.
0 – Ice Cold
1 – Still cool
2 – There’s smoke
3 – Getting Warm
4 – On Fire
5 – Start working on the resume
Justin Wilcox, California = 1.5
Previous – 1.75
Justin Wilcox had to get Cal to a bowl to keep his job safe for next year. At 5-4 he needs just one more win to make it, and I think he will. If he doesn’t though the hotseat will ramp up very fast.
Mario Cristobal, Miami = 1.5
Previous – 1.75
Cristobal’s seat continues to cool from the start of the year with the Canes 9-1 start and in the thick of the ACC Title chase. Their QB Cam Ward should be a Heisman Finalist. Don’t slip up now…
Dave Clawson, Wake Forest = 2
Previous – 1.75
Wake Forest is 4-5 and is staring at a second straight missed bowl season. Dave Clawson won’t be fired, but there could be some rumblings as Wake Forest is starting to really fall behind in the ACC.
Mack Brown, UNC – 2
Previous – 2
UNC has been all over the place this year – from a total mess at mid-season to showing signs of improvement to get to 5-4 and on the verge of a bowl game.
Tony Elliot, Virginia = 2
Previous = 2.75
Tony Elliot is having their best season under Tony Elliot. Currently, 5-4, if the Hoos make a bowl, Elliot will almost have a cool seat, but the finishing stretch is brutal with games at Notre Dame, SMU, and at rival Virginia.
Dave Doeren, NC State = 2.5
Previous = 2.25
NC State was in the top 25 early in the year but is 5-5. Doeren has been at NC State 2013, with seasons ranging from awful to some pretty good years, but it seems stale now. With road games at Georgia Tech and UNC to end the year, he could be in the Getting Warm status at year’s end.
Mike Norvell, Florida State – 3
Previous – 2
I don’t see Mike Norvell getting fired. He did go 13-0 last season in the regular season with an ACC Title, but this year at 1-9 has been the trainwrecks of trainwrecks. Staff changes have already started.
Troy Taylor, Stanford = 3.75
Previous = 2.5
Stanford is awful and hasn’t won a game since late September. They are 2-7, and Troy Taylor doesn’t seem to be moving the program forward. He’s probably back in 2025 for year 3, but he’s on thin ice.
