The college football schedule season has just passed the halfway point. Those pre-season predictions are out the window, so how does the remaining schedule look for the ACC teams?
Let’s start with teams currently 9-17 in the ACC Standings.
Clemson (6-1, 5-0)
Clemson’s schedule finally gets real after 2 months of prep following the Georgia loss.
The season ends against Louisville, at Virginia Tech, at Pittsburgh, The Citadel, and South Carolina.
Other than The Citadel, an off-game by Clemson can result in a loss to any of the other four. It won’t be easy, but I think Clemson runs the table. Expect some scares in there.
Predicted Finished (11-1, 8-0)
Miami (8-0, 4-0)
I think Miami has got through the toughest part of their schedule.
The finish is Duke, at Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and at Syracuse. I’m not sure I trust the defense just yet, but Cam Ward and offense is spectacular and that will carry them through the schedule.
Predicted Finished (12-0, 8-0)
SMU (7-1, 4-0)
SMU survived a wretched performance to still win at Duke. That might have been their mulligan as the finishing schedule isn’t bad – well except for that game with Pittsburgh which is massive.
The schedule finishes with Pittsburgh, Boston College, at Virginia, and California.
An upset has to happen somewhere right? I think it might be Pitt that gets them.
Predicted Finish (10-2, 7-1)
Pittsburgh (7-0, 3-0)
Well, we’ve already said Pitt beats SMU, and with Clemson running the table that means they beat Pittsburgh. What about the other three Pitt games with Virginia, at Louisville, and at Boston College.
Don’t sleep on that game against Louisville.
Predicted Finish (10-2, 6-2)
Virginia Tech (5-3, 3-1)
Virginia Tech is getting right at the right time. Their final 4 games are at Syracuse, Clemson, at Duke, and Virgina.
I think the Hokies are going to go on a little run to finish the season.
Predicted Finish (8-4, 6-2)
Syracuse (5-2, 2-2)
Syracuse has quite a finishing kick with Virginia Tech, at Boston College, at Cal, UConn, and Miami. Syracuse came unglued against Pitt, and that might spell through for the rest of the year.
I don’t think they beat either Virginia Tech or Miami, and I don’t see better than split with BC and Cal on the road. That’s still a reasonable season for first year coach Fran Brown.
Predicted Finish (7-5, 3-5)
Georgia Tech (5-4, 3-3)
Georgia Tech sat 5-2, and there’s a very real chance they won’t win another game. QB Haynes King isn’t healthy and the offense has tanked since he’s been out, and now you have Miami, NC State, and at Georgia.
Just two top 5 teams, and an improving NC State to try and reach a bowl. I think they’ll sneak by NC State, but it’s no guarantee.
Predicted Finish (6-6, 4-4)
Duke (6-2, 2-2)
Duke has managed to get to 6-2 despite an inconsistent offense at best. I think it’s going to catch up with these games at Miami, at NC State, Virginia Tech, and at Wake Forest.
I feel a little losing streak coming on, but they’ll get the season finale against Wake Forest.
Predicted Finish (7-5, 3-5)
