This is a just quick post for tonight.
In early October, we said this about Pittsburgh football when they weren’t yet ranked.
The defense still has some lapses, but the lapses are getting fewer and this team survived the games where the football was more inconsistent. At some point, you are what your record says you are and Pitt is 5-0. Few teams can say that. It’s time to rank them.
Well, the defense has caught up with the offense. They only gave up 15 points and 63 rushing yards to Cal, then against Syracuse they had 5 interceptions and 3 Pick 6s against a pretty good Syracuse team through 3 quarters in racing out to the 38-6.
If we’re going to call Indiana or Iowa State a playoff contender, then you need to do the same for Pittsburgh.
That’s a team a top-15 team, and needs to be ranked there.
Now Pitt will wait to see if SMU can defeat Duke, and make their matchup a top 20, possible ESPN gameday event.
